I would like to know if I invest in a electric boat motor if I will be stranded on a windy day. Is an electric boat motor compaired to a 9.9 hp gas motor?
HP is an HP whether it's electric, gas diesel or steam. That's the short answer. Length of running time on charge is the limiting factor.
Here are some sites that will give you some specs so you can make an informed decision

I want to equip some small boat with an electric motor, which I want to run on a car battery or several.
I really wonder what I could use as a motor. Maybe truck starters? How long would the boat run on that though? I'd need something that can run four or five hours.
First of all, I don't know anything about electric motors for boats, but I have seen a lot of motorcycle conversions. The motors used for these bikes usually seem to be used for golf-karts so that they are specifically designed for DC power sources.
Here's an interesting site with conversion kits for all kinds of vehicles including boats:

A conversion of a stock 50ccm motorcycle:

Conversion of a used old Kawasaki at home:

From what I can see the main problem in all these conversions is still the battery-space and capacity, and of cause, the price.
A boat might provide enough space for the batteries but I couldn't find reliable info on the range an electric powered boat might have.
Unfortunately, I lost all my bookmarks related to electric engines. These few links here are all I can remember, sorry.

12V trolling motor with 18 pounds of thrust
Mounts to transom or boat eyelets (if equipped)
Patented, integrated mount--no need for additional motor mount
The boat has a 55hp outboard, want electric motor for trolling
I would go with 45 to 65 foot pounds of thrust... especially if you go on any rivers. We use the Cape Fear River in NC alot and run a 55ftlb.... and it does great.
Price: $64.99
Built-in battery meter displays current "state of charge"
Easy-access batter terminals for connecting leads
Offers pair of 12-volt accessory plugs and manual reset circuit breakers
electric motors list power as pounds of thrust. gas motors list power in terms of horsepower. I'd like to know how they compare.
There is a formula that converts watts to HP but generally you can use 15 lbs of thrust being equal to 1 HP.
I have a 2000 Electric Duffy 18 ft boat with a bad motor in it. Where can I find a replacement motor without going to the boat manufacture.
It's a sealed golf cart motor. It's entirely possible to rebuild the one you have at a fraction of the cost of a new one. Or check with a local golf course.....they deal with these issues all the time.
