Boat Motor Prop

I have a pontoon boat that I am looking for a spare prop for. It needs to be in the 9 to14 degree pitch with an 11 spline hub. I can't find one on ebay, they are all either 13 spline or 15 spline. Any idea's? I am going on vacation in a couple weeks and need a spare to take with me since last time out I broke one.

Go to a dealer of whatever brand engine you have, they should be able to get you another. Or you could go to a prop shop and get one.

1986 Evinrude 60HP Boat Motor first startup after winter!

Its the fin under the Propeller at the very bottom of the motor.
What is the fin under the stern called, and can it be repaired?

The fin called a "Scag"
Not sure on the Stern part.

hi , i have a mercruiser 3 liter , 4 cylinder engine the alpha one , 1987 anyhow i tore up the prop pretty bad on sandbar think I need a new one , what do they cost?

Dont have keey for prop lock and no where sells them any ideas on how to get it off with out cutting it off

I agree with Mrfixit on this one, but use caution, it's a job that takes patience. Use a Dremil tool or similar tool , DON'T use a cutting torch, I've seen several prop shafts ruined by people using cutting torches and it cost a lot to replace. I might suggest that you call a prop repair shop, I'd bet they have run into this a lot and might be able to help, particularly if your buying a new prop from them.

You have really answered the question yourself. In a boat the prop places more load on the engine then it has in a car. This is not to say that if you reduced pitch some you would not get the same rpm as the same engine in a car. But besides the pitch of the prop, there is the gear ratio. An inboard boat commonly has a gear ratio of 2-1 and thats it. A car not only has a transmission with multiple gears but also a differential that reduces load on the engine and may have a ratio of 3-1 and much lower (like 4-1 or more). So the cars torque is multiplied many times while a boat is limited. You may get the same performance in a car if you tried running up a long steep hill in top gear, chances are it would not reach max revs becuase of that load. A boat is said to be running up hill all the time.
