curious as to what can happen to an outboard motor if you run 10w-30 that would go in a car instead of 4-stroke motor oil.

Most likely nothing will happen. The only problem that I could think of is if you used an oil that had an older rating such as an API SD instead of a newer API SL rating. Newer ratings still meet the older rating needs but the old ones do not meet the newer needs. You can use an SL rated oil in an engine that needs SF rated oils but you should not use SF rated oil in an engine that needs SL rated oil. What could happen? It may not meet the viscosity levels or heat levels required, or it may not have the same level of detergent added. This applies to any 4 stroke, marine or automotive. Diesel engines require oil with a C rating and should not get S rated oils.

Does a 140 horse johnson 2 stroke outboard boat motor have oil in the crankcase or just in the gas?

If it is a older model it should be a 2 stroke witch has oil in the gas. If it is a newer model it could go ether way.

I have a Shamrock Predator boat with an inboard Inmar 302 215 horsepower 4 barrell engine. I noticed a large amount of gas mixed in with the oil recently. What would cause this, I cannot figure it out. thanks

I agree with Tim & BR check your mechanical fuel pump, sticking carb floats can also flood the cylinders then leak into the oil sump. Whatever the factor is fix it soon because this condition could start a fire or ruin your engine. good luck.

What could be the problem it's a 85 Seaswriel 18' OMC 4cl motor the oil looks like milk. Can you help and what should I do.

Sounds like a head gasket problem to me.

I have a 5.5HP Evinrude Fisherman motor. It was built sometime in the 1960's. It's a 2 stroke motor. Lately It has been leaking oil through the lower unit. The seal was replaced last year. I took everything apart and checked it out and everything seem fine but it's still leaking oil. I thought that maybe I should just pack the transmission unit with grease. What do you uys think? Is that a good idea? Do you have any ideas what could be causing the leak?

Grease WILL NOT WORK. Take the outboard to a shop and have it pressure tested to determine the location of the leak. My guess- the propshaft has become scored and the leak is at the propshaft seal.
