what is the correct way to install impeller for a boat motor?

Are the blades supose to be clockwise or counter clockwise? thanks

Blades counter clockwise.
Install the new impeller, lube the impeller and pump house with some dish-wash and turn the drive shaft (not the prop shaft) clockwise while pressing on the pump house.

I have a 40 hp mercury boat motor runs great but running a little too hot Ive changed the impeller already?

Ive changed the water impeller and housing, compression on all cylinders are 90psi . the motor doesnt seem to come out of the hole and plain out like it should, but it is running great. the water coming out of the outlet is pretty hot though and I dont want to harm the motor. How can I cool this heat problem and get the boat to come out on plain like it used too

Is the tel-tale stream steady? Check the temp of the engine block and head. The temp of these componets is what matters. Does the engine run better before it warms up? If it doesnt then the temp is not effecting the running of the engine. The down on power problem could be related to something else. How are the plugs, is the fuel fresh? Is the prop in good shape, has the engine been sync and linked lately? Run the engine at 1000 rpms on a hose and pull the spark plug leads off at a time. Make sure all the cylinders make the engine drop in rpm. If not the engine is not running on all the cylinders.

where is the impeller on a 115hp mercury boat motor?

Its in the Lower Unit, and will have to be removed to access the water pump.
You will need you motors serial #, and model to get the right replacement parts.

Good Luck

need help with boat motor removing the lower unit to get to gear casing. please help?

i have a 1974 evinrude 115 hp outboard motor. may be 135 hp according to case on motor but serial number come to 115hp.. i have the manual and says something about removing the shift lever retaining clip and there is no clip to be found. i searched for hours. i tried a few different things and got the lower unit to drop about 1 inch but that's all.. i need to change the impeller and its making my boat motor repairing a nightmare. i would really appreciate any help.

relax, take a couple deep breaths, maybe have a beer...that lower won't drop till the shift rod is disconnected.

ok...I have a link to those instructions -- found it.

It's under the bottom carb.

Couple tips:
*The shift rod height is adjusted by screwing it in or out, so don't twist it or else it won't fit when you put it back.

* Grease the inside of the housing (trailer axle grease is fine), and shove it down onto the impeller while turning the driveshaft clockwise with your hand. Don't use any kind of tool on the driveshaft splines.

On reassembly:
* put molly lube on the drive shaft splines (but not on top, there's not enough clearance).
* the rubber o-ring just below the drive shaft splines -- you need that.
* put omc gasket sealant (or some kind of anti-sieze) on the retaining bolts -- or else corrosion will set in & it'll be a bitch next time.
* use 3m #847 or permatex #2 on the joint between midsection & lower unit. www.ishopmarine.com has 847 -- permatex is way harder to clean off there next time around.
