Boat Lift Motor

Why is it i get told its not a lady like thing to drive a truck, motor bike boat or fork lift? What is so bad about it?

Hi, I have a question about a 220v motor on a boat lift. The motor will operate fine in the down operation and will work fine when the boat is in the water starting up with no load. However, if you were to stop the lift, say half way up, and start up again, the motor will not start and by that I mean it will turn very slow and after about 10 seconds will trip the fuse. After that, I have to lower the boat down again and start with no load and it will be fine unless I stop again.

The motor is approx. 15 years old in salt water environment. I have replaced the capacitor and checked all the connections and appear to be ok. I'm just wondering if the motor windings could just be old and need to replace the motor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would say you have to get new motor I do not think this is a two stage motor if it was it could be that the second stage of it was not kicking in and causing it not to work. But I am sure this is a single stage motor and if in or near salt water it is time to get a new one.
Motors these days unless they are very large are best to be replaced and it would cost more to rewind them unless they are very large as I said. Buy a new one and you should be set for a few more years.

Work is Force times Distance (W = Fd). You're given a gravitational force of 866 Newtons, and a distance of 12.7 meters. So, the Work done is 866*12.7 = 10998.2
Power is Work divided by time (P = W/t). We've solved for Work, and the time given is 26.2 seconds. So the power would be approximately 419.8 (watts).

I have a 140 mercruiser inboard. The boat sunk in shallow water (still deep enough to cover entire engine). Lifting boat out and will wash down but what state is the engine likley to be in?

Your motor needs to be serviced. drain the oil and refill, spray the electrical parts with a water displacement such as WD40. Remove spark plugs and if it will turn over get the water out of the cylinders. After you are sure the water is out make sure carb is water free too, then hook engine up to fresh fuel, not your boats fuel tank, and get it started. You may have to replace electrical parts even if they appear to work. Your boats fuel tank needs to pumped out and refilled. Be careful with any electrical wiring that was under water.

to lift the motor i have to climb out of the boat in the water and unscrew the release to lift the motor manually. i have no idea what to do and the only boat shop around just had my boat in there for over a month and charged me to much. is there anything i should do. any idea whats wrong?

First purchase a manual, if you plan to work on you motor. Check the fluid level for the trim/tilt, it's probably low. Next may be electrical - lower the motor then switch the blue and green wires. If it goes up - it's an electrical problem.
