Hello, I live in Tobago and would like to be an agent for yamaha outboard parts how can that be setup. thanks?

Tobago main source is tourism and taking the tourist to the Buccoo Reef in the glass bottom boat is part of showing them parts of Tobago, The boats here have outboard engines. Parts are very hard to come by and it's not always at your finget tips when something goes wrong with the engine. I need good information like contact person and number preferrable from yamaha. Information that will help me start up that business. Thank you

Help with outboard engine and boat wiring ?

Hi, I have just bought an old sims super v speedboat with a yamaha 50 deto outboard.
Im just getting started and this is my first boat.
In it there is an engine hours counter, rpm - meter, and speedometer.
I dont know where to start with the wiring.
I have steering for the outboard but not remotes for gear and throttle, ad presumably starting the motor but will buy those ASAP.
do I need a 12v type battery to start the motor ? what do I need to hook it up to the outboard ?
where can I look online (aside from obviously google) for help on wiring ?
I know this is asking a lot but even part of an answer would help!

Yes you will need a battery, there should be a red and black battery wire still attached to the motor.
Here is a basic diagram for guage wiring:

You will have to get a yamaha remote control, or a generic wired for yamaha.
i.boats forums can be very helpful, go here and see what info there is for your motor:

Which outboard to buy?

I have a 16' Bayliner runabout that I bought in 2002. I would like to upgrade, but my wife likes the smaller boat, cheaper docking fees, etc. We have come to a compromise that I am going to buy a bigger engine for it, so I can get some more speed.

I currently have a 2003 Mercury 50HP 2 stroke, and am looking to upgrade to a 75 hp or 90 hp. I have been told that Yamaha is the way to go. I understand that the 90 HP 4 stroke will be too heavy for my boat, therefore, I have to look at the 90 HP 2 stroke. I have heard in the past that the 2 strokes will be discontinued, so if this is true, does it still pay to buy one, even though there are plenty of parts/mechanics who will service them?

What would be my best bet, more HP but 2 stroke, or less HP with a 4 stroke? Which manufacturer do you recommend?

It's for saltwater use.

Thanks!
Thanks so much everyone.

Regarding the docking fees, I meant slip rental fees for the season, $100 a foot, so if I went to a 20 footer it would be another $400 a year.

I've never seen the law that says you cannot exceed the specifications on your capacity plate, but it would be foolish to do so. If the boat is a 2002 model, it will likely handle a 4-stroke just fine. One way to test that is to determine the weight of both motors and add the extra weight to the stern of your boat in the form of sandbags or such. Then you will know how low it will sit with the extra weight. That would probably be your biggest concern, swamping the boat, provided of-course, it is rated for the HP.

That being said, I would opt for the Evinrude E-tech 2-stroke or the Yamaha or Suzuki 4-stroke. I have heard some complaints on the Honda 4-strokes, but not too many on the Yam's or Zuk's.

By the way...how do you have docking fees with a 16' boat?

Good luck!

  • Help- problem with boat club - The Hull Truth - Boating and ...

We have a problem with a local boat club. Recently on returning from a trip, the boat suddenly stopped running with no warning. The Yamaha F150 engine would not start and we were towed in. We have now been presented with a $2,500 bill as they say it was our fault. We have a witness who was with us at the time, to confirm that no alarm had sounded but this has fallen on death ears. We had been out for approx. 4 hours and only used $14 of fuel. Has anyone any suggestions as to where we go from here. We are looking for maybe a marine investigator to look into this and would welcome any advice. I think you need to explain yourself better. What's a boat club? Do you buy a membership and have...
