V8 Boat Engine

i want to use a 350 or 305 and need to know what ill need ,please help thank you.
and will it bolt up to my out drive?

I am looking to buy a new truck capable of pulling an 18' boat. Do I need a V8 engine? How much extra will a V8 cost on a new truck compared to a V6?

The answer to all of your questions is.... It depends. lol.
But honestly, it is not the length of the boat that matters, it is the weight of the boat, with everything in it that matters. This is called the Gross Vehicle Weight or abbreviated to GVWR.
It is the curb weight of the boat, along with the maximum weight in cargo that it can handle. You figure out the GVWR and compare that to the max towing capability of the particular V6 vehicle that you have in mind.
A powerful V8 would be perfect for the job becuase it has enough power to tow it without straining, but even some V6's have enough torque to hual a lot of weight, so you have to check out each vehicle's particular tow ratings.
Another tip is to buy a truck with an actual towing package instead of just a tow hitch. If a tow hitch is just drilled into the back bumper it cannot really tow that much, but if you have a real set up that is welded to the frame of your truck it works out a lot better.
Depending on the weight of your boat I would probably say that a big V6 with lots of torque would be okay, but it all depends on the statistics.

It is an open bow boat, 5.0, 305 V8 engine. I want to know how much it weighs to see if my jeep grand cherokee can tow it
the boat trailer has brakes so i'm not concerned about stopping so much, i am trying to figure out if my jeep can handle it with towing.

I pull a 2.5 ton Fletcher with V8 inboard with my V8 4.0 Landrover with no probs, the major hassle was stopping it.

Since then I have had the modified electro-hydraulic braking system fitted to the car and now no problems either way.

I was recently told that it puts too much strain on my engine to tow a 19.5 foot boat with the ac running. is that true, even with a 4.7l powertech V8 engine?

You should be fine running the AC.

The two things you should do are:

1. Check the towing capacity of the vehicle and the combined weight of the boat, trailer and any gear in the boat to make sure it's within the tow vehicles capability.

2. If you have automatic overdrive on the transmission of the vehicle you should consider turning that off. On my Ford truck overdrive is turned off by pushing a button at the end of the gear selector.

I have recently purchased a new Glastron boat with an 5.0L V8 engine and Volvo Penta outdrive. The engine has approximately six hours on it now. I have noticed that when I turn off the engine while loading/unloading skiiers/tubers, the engine will often not start in the neutral position. I am forced to move the throttle approximately 1/2 way down before the engine will fire. This is not a fuel injected engine, but it seems that if it is warm, it should not require throttle to turn over (also it is not every warm start that requires throttle). The dealer seems unconcerned, but I wonder what is "normal" in this situation (i.e. perhaps after a full 20 hours break in, the engine will perform differently?). Thank you.

I also wouldn't be all that concerned at this stage. First, the engine is still very tight. See: brake-in instructions. Secondly the carb. linkage is still stiff, but needs adjustment, usually done at the 20 hr. check, and the idle will be reset. If the problem is causing you safety issues ask the dealer to take an early look at this before the 20 hr. check.
