How do you build an efficient steam powered boat engine?

I am looking into building a steam boat style engine for a large boat project I am working on. It is my first and a steam engine seems most what I need. I know very little technical terms. Thank you!

Not at all impossible. But very difficult without extensive engineering knowledge and experience.

Best option is to purchase a steam engine and boiler from a builder, get your boiler attendant ticket and operators certificate and enjoy. To re-invent a couple of hundred years of technology from scratch will be very very hard to get right - and potentially lethal.

how do i make a simple steam engine for a toy boat?

I'm making a steam engine for a model boat that is made of wood and about a foot long. i want the engine to be as small as i can make it with preferably house hold materials. i would like detailed instructions that are written not a movie.
pictures to would be helpful.

thanks.

We used to take a snuff can - solder a piece of brass tube to lower side of one end - feed the tube into the water at stern. Fill snuff box with water set over a small lit candel - steam will come out end of tube and propell boat.

Heron, did he invent just the vending machine, automatic door and the first steam engine?

I was Just wondering if it were possible that Heron invented anything other than the above objects, maybe a steam powered boat, i think it's possible. What do you think?

Hero saw the steam engine (that was also used to open a door) more as a toy than a practical device, it was not sufficient to power anything as large as a boat.

Is it possible to make a toy steam boat using {iron, zinc, cobalt, or nickel }(not copper) as the engine?

If it possible, which ones more effective? why?

If it possible, which ones better? why?

Zn would be best because it is the most resistant to corrosion

What are the pros and cons of the steam engine?

not the steam train or steam boat

The only type of steam engine in use today is the coal fired power plant, nuclear plant, and cogeneration power plants (nat gas).

The pros;

-High efficiency (for thermal systems)
-Low operating cost
-Long life (60+years)

The cons;
-High overhead
-High initial investment
-Low potential for further innovation (the technology can't be improved on much)
-Uses non-renewable fuel sources

    Pop Pop boat. An aluminum can, a couple bendy straws, 2 part epoxy, hot melt glue, a styrofoam meat tray, 6 pennies, a couple rubber bands, aluminum foil, and a cut up birthday candle+ 3 hours with or without your kid on a rainy day and you get this pop pop boat… lego zombie added for humor value. Thanks to the genius at www.sciencetoymaker.org for the easy to follow instructions, all parts of which are presented in video clips here on youtube! as far as my understanding goes, it’s a rudimentary steam engine… the aluminum can forms the ‘engine’ which is ‘primed’ with a little water… when the droplets of water inside are heated by the candle flame, they flash to steam and that pressure blasts through the straws under the boat creating a little thrust. The pressure also causes the metal to flex, making a pop noise as it expels the steam. Another pop noise is created as the metal returns, and at the same time acts as a diaphragm pump, drawing more water through the straws and repriming the engine. Pop pop pop until the candle burns out!
