What should i be mixing my fuel at for my 2003 90HP Johnston engine? the guy i bought it from had said something like 50:1. I just want to see if anyone else has advice. Thanks. Also the decals on the engine were removed before i bought it so im unsure if it is a saltwater series engine, but doest sacrificial anodes usually mean its saltwater motor?
Freshwater engines shouldn't have the sacrificial anodes should they?
All outboard oil containers will give U a ounce to gallon ratio. all outboard have zinks.Take the model # off the engine if the plate or decal # is missing than look at the soft plug on the block it should be there. look on NADA.com under the Yr and match the # from the engine that will tell U what engine U have.

What all is entailed to get the salt water out of my boat engine, and how much could it end up costing me?
If it been sitting more than a couple of day the engine is probably on the back side of saving. Rust has started if it just happened drain the water out and fill complete with oil and diesel fuel till it can be dissembled or repaired. Time is very important.Depends on what let go.Hundreds to thousands.

I have a friend who has an old stern drive SeaRay that he just wants to give to me. The only problem is the engine needs work. Any tips on working on stern drive engines? And will a standard engine hoist be tall enough to pull the motor or will I need to find some way of getting a gantry hoist (really hard to do where the boat will be)?
wikapedia will probably help good luck
hi , i think i have to have my prop reconditioned on my boat chipped up pretty bad , how hard is it to remove it? and put back on
If you have an outboard motor, there is a nut that torques to 55ft. lbs. there is a thrust washer after you have removed the prop. I would change that as well while the prop is off. Very small price to pay for the proper thrust. Some of your smaller outdrives does have a pin to remove. Most common I'm familiar with is the nut and locf washer. It takes a 15/16 socket or a prop wrench to remove it. You will have to hold the prop by hand, don't put it in gear to break the nut loose. This could damage the internal gears. Good luck
i have already cut off 2 fins, tried heating the shaft, no joy, so tried i puller, drilled into the casing, heated it and used th puller, still no joy, any suggestions?
This has happened to a lack of maintenance. At the end of every season you should pull prop off and clean splines and grease them before you put prop back on . Over time the grease washes out and the prop becomes seized on splines
In most cases you have to burn the rubber hub out of it then beat prop off. The the remaining metal core which is whats actually seized you must get die grinder and cut it along its length 180 degrees from each other then knock off each half.. Dont heat the shaft or your gonna have to replace prop shaft seals and most likely the carrier o-ring.
Use a cutting disc on your die grinder and just be careful you dont go to far or you will cut into shaft
I have run in to this a dozen times

Any enclosed space that contains fuel-burning engines or appliances should be well ventilated. In addition to the fire hazard, fuel-burning apparatus can pose an unseen threat - Carbon Monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas, can build up undetected below deck. If your boat has accommodations and is fitted with an inboard engine, generator or fuel-burning appliances, install a Carbon Monoxide Detector close to where people will be sleeping. Enclosed gasoline engine and fuel tank compartments must be fitted with a blower and an under way ventilation system in accordance with the Construction Standards for Small Vessels. New provision of The Small Vessels Regulation require "The Blower to Be Operated...
