How much will it cost me if I can't remove the salt water from the oil in my boat engine?

What all is entailed to get the salt water out of my boat engine, and how much could it end up costing me?

If it been sitting more than a couple of day the engine is probably on the back side of saving. Rust has started if it just happened drain the water out and fill complete with oil and diesel fuel till it can be dissembled or repaired. Time is very important.Depends on what let go.Hundreds to thousands.

how hard is it to remove prop? from boat engine?

hi , i think i have to have my prop reconditioned on my boat chipped up pretty bad , how hard is it to remove it? and put back on

If you have an outboard motor, there is a nut that torques to 55ft. lbs. there is a thrust washer after you have removed the prop. I would change that as well while the prop is off. Very small price to pay for the proper thrust. Some of your smaller outdrives does have a pin to remove. Most common I'm familiar with is the nut and locf washer. It takes a 15/16 socket or a prop wrench to remove it. You will have to hold the prop by hand, don't put it in gear to break the nut loose. This could damage the internal gears. Good luck

How to remove a stern drive engine from a boat?

I have a friend who has an old stern drive SeaRay that he just wants to give to me. The only problem is the engine needs work. Any tips on working on stern drive engines? And will a standard engine hoist be tall enough to pull the motor or will I need to find some way of getting a gantry hoist (really hard to do where the boat will be)?

How can i remove a propeller from a mercury 60hp boat engine?

i have already cut off 2 fins, tried heating the shaft, no joy, so tried i puller, drilled into the casing, heated it and used th puller, still no joy, any suggestions?

This has happened to a lack of maintenance. At the end of every season you should pull prop off and clean splines and grease them before you put prop back on . Over time the grease washes out and the prop becomes seized on splines
In most cases you have to burn the rubber hub out of it then beat prop off. The the remaining metal core which is whats actually seized you must get die grinder and cut it along its length 180 degrees from each other then knock off each half.. Dont heat the shaft or your gonna have to replace prop shaft seals and most likely the carrier o-ring.
Use a cutting disc on your die grinder and just be careful you dont go to far or you will cut into shaft
I have run in to this a dozen times

Do I need an engine allignment tool to but my engine back in that boat if I didn't remove the stern drive?

Block up the sides of the boat (inside or out) and put a beam across then use a come-along to lift the motor on to the deck(floor) . You can work on it right there in the boat. Strip it down and carry the pieces out one by one. Because you have not specified which stern drive you have—they are all horribly different Each one has easy and impossible things that have to be done. There are short cuts that can save you lots of time "like cutting bad control cables instead of removing in place" Some parts are common to the automotive industry so you can get $18.00 u-joints instead of $40. ones at the marina. Lastly get a book. And keep asking questions here, There are lots of us retired guys here to keep you cheap and honest to the work.
