Mercruiser Boat Engine

The starter turns over but the engine will not start. We put a new fuel filter and spark plugs but it did nothing. Im not a mechanic but it seems like it is not getting any gas. But im also scared it could be a cracked head. Does anyone know what I can do to test my theories or if you have any advise feel free to let me know thanks!
The gas is new and we also but a gas treatment into it. when we put gas directly onto the carb it did start

How old is the fuel in the boat? It may have gone sour, and you could be pumping bad fuel through. Plugs were a worth while effort.

When you turn the ignition to the first 'stop', you should hear a fan come on in the engine compartment. Also your FUEL PUMP should be working, it is a different sound from the fan.

Might need some fuse replacements. This is a very very common problem every year when the water become attractive. Your motor is a 4 stroke and pretty easy to service.

I'm just looking for the easiest way to change the oil in my boat engine.

If thats a 4 cyl Chev you can drain the pan but your bilge will be a mess. The dipstick tube should be threaded, you can hook a pump line to it. I have a small pan with hose attached that goes under the oil pan (the hose runs out the drain plug).It drains any crap out that lays in the pan & its faster then pumping.

I thnk 1-3-4-2 is correct.

Here is how to tell where to put the wires. Remove #1 plug, place your finger over the hole and "bump" the motor over until you feel compression (you can do that by hand). Then look and see where the rotor in the distributor is pointing. Put that wire to #1. The wire directly opposite will be for #2. Do the same for #4 plug, and then #3. You will have verified firing order, and wire position.

Can I use standard car oil (5w 30 and etc.) or some type of marine oil. The marine oil sold at boat shop are like 3 times more expensive. Thanks

I'd go with synthetic 20W-50. If it's cold enough to need 5W it's too cold to go boating. But, It does get hot enough in the summer for 50 weight. Good Luck!
