i have alot of knowledge in motors i just need the cheapest and easiest way because i just want a simple homemade rc boat

I just got a new kayak-sized wooden boat, and it needs a motor. Someone said 50 horsepower (hp), but it seems 5 hp is more what I need. I plan to use it in fairly shallow ponds and lakes, freshwater. It needs to power 200 pounds. Please include your boating experience so I'll know whether to trust your answer! Thank you.

5 hp would get you going o.k., but it was probably built for about 10 hp - with 10 you would buzz around at anything up to 25 knots! 50 hp would be insane - and too dangerous.

This will be a hoot - just make sure the transom is solid - no flex or soft bits, and use a short shaft 9.9 or similar. The standard prop might be too fine, as with such a small and light weight hull top end speed is going to be the whole point!

Mine was called "Phoom" - it was nine feet long, and with a stock six hp Evinrude I could get about 15 knots plus on my own (wouldn't plane two up), it used to slide like a mongrel in the turns - but was the most fun a twelve year old could get. An 8 hp mariner we used was possibly 18 knots - but this was more to do with the prop than power. Back then the authorities had better things to do than hassel kids enjoying themselves in a healthy and safe manner. My kids also have had this experience from the earliest moment possible, but I fear the thought police will not allow my grandkids to have that freedom. <sigh>

I believe it is a very diluted form of Ospho, a de-ruster sold at many marine stores........if you use Ospho for this job, be careful as it will eat paint and maybe even gell coat.......I'd try fresh water, maybe even from a pressure washer if needs be to de salt my boat before I'd use any chemical
