the latest diesel is the new yamaha 4 cylinder engine. check the web sites for marine engines. a good start is 'marine engines .com ' diesels are heavier than gasoline so the boat will be stonger construction. the new yamaha is aboout 20,000 dollars and with the stronger hull, your cost will be higher than gas but you will save on fuel cost. diesel will give you more miles per gallon.

when ever I turn sharp it wants to hydroslide sideways. It feels like it wants to flip over. What could be the problem?
I added a fin to the engine to try an stop the problem but it made it worse.
That's just going to happen because of the design of the boat. Their is nothing you can do to change that but too slow down when turning.

You don't show a figure, and more importantly don't provide a value for the distance of the boat.
Basically though you'll be using speed*time=distance and solve for time. What figure are you using for the speed of sound?

I'm presuming you mean 1km. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_of_so und#Seawater) has
"In salt water that is free of air bubbles or suspended sediment, sound travels at about 1560 m/s."
time = distance / speed
time = 1km / 1.560 km/s
time = 0.64s
