I watched the guy do it last year and in stead of using the jug deal for the anti freeze he took one of the hoses off and poured the anti freeze in it till it came out the bottom, i am not sure which one he had taken off and pored it into there are 4 hoses in the front and 2 more under those, which one do i use???

and a tank like this:

i would get a service manual and read up on it and make sure you do it correctly, its not always as easy and hooking it to antifreeze and running it for a few minutes and if you don't do it right and water is still in there somewhere you can be looking at a cracked block, head, manifolds, etc and lost of money in repairs. Personally I have mine done so the liability is not on me. Its a small price to pay compared to a cracked block
How to Prepare Your Boat for Winter - Step 2 in the five step process on How to Winterize Your Boat: The Engine & Lower Unit
Does anyone have the details for winterizing a Volvo Penta 5.0 GXi boat engine? I have the Volvo Penta Operator's Manual, but it just states to take the boat to a dealer for winterization. I'd like to do this myself, if not too difficult.
BTW - I keep my boat on a lift, so not sure if this come into play with winterinzing. Thanks, All!
First you will need to pickle it. To do this you remove the fuel filter (careful not to spill the fuel in it). Pour about 2 oz. of two cycle oil into it and re-install. Run the engine for about 30 seconds. Next step is drain the water from the engine. After raising the boat out of the water, remove the hull drain plug. There is a main block drain line in the bottom of the engine compartment, remove the cap from it. There is also a brass manifold drain plug at the aft end of each exhaust manifold, remove those. Once the water has finished draining get as much water as you can out of the bottom of the boat and replace all of the engine plugs. (Main block drain line, two manifold plugs). Loosen the hose clamps on the raw water pump at the lower front of the engine and remove those hoses to allow the water to drain out of those lines and then replace them. loosen the four hoses connecting to the water pump at the top of the engine and pull the hoses off. Pour in pink anti-freeze (the environmental safe kind) in all four of the hoses until full (it will take about four gallons). replace the hoses and tighten the hose clamps. Either set the battery up to charge it while in the boat or remove the battery and store in inside. Done.

Plastic or copper screw should I be looking for? It is a carb system, raw water cooling( from lake water) V8 cobra and believe it is a Ford engine

I have a 2001 Bayliner Cierra Cruiser with an in-board V8 Mercruiser engine. It's in storage with a boating place near by and has been there since it's been winterized last season. Never really had the boat winterized before (Hence needing to do a $6,000 repair last season).
I want to know if I will need to request for the service people to do a de-winterization" if such a thing even exists. Or is it something I can handle doing with out much trouble. And finally, this is something that I had to get professionally done, how much am I looking at for the service?
All in all, the weather is starting to get nicer and I'm ready to take the boat out. I just want it to be safe and better yet fire right up with out damaging anything.
Any/all advice much appreciated!!!
De winterize is fairly straight forward. Follow these easy to understand instructions:
1. Put the drain plug in the stern of the boat, remove any covers on the outdrive.
2. Charge or replace the battery, check the impeller water pump on the outdrive, replace if necessary.
3 Check the oil, it should be new oil form the winterization process.
4. Fuel the boat.
5. tow boat and trailer to water, launch the boat, start the engine, check the oil pressure, water temp, if everything is satisfactory, have a good day, if not pull the boat out and repair or address the issue.
