We are looking up the value of a used boat on the nadaguides.com and the value they have is way less (average retail value is what the banks use) than what the dealer wants. They want $19500 and it says on nadaguides that is worth 15k with trailer and engine. Do people normally buy for the nadaguides price or above it? I am new to this.

Short answer: Yes, if you buy (or sell) withing the guidelines of NADA, you most likely made a good, fair, and reasonable deal. If you buy "outside" of those guides, you are not getting a good and fair or reasonable deal.

In addition, you need to arrange for your own financing, and your own insurance in advance... and don't buy anything else the dealer has to sell, but the boat. DON'T let them talk you into their financing, or their insurance (of any kind) or their warranty extensions. I have seen first time boat buyers drive away in boats that cost them FOUR times as much as it should have, because they got all this stuff "hidden" inside monthly boat payments they could afford - but were stretched out so far the boat will be worth nothing, before they make their last payment.

So... use the NADA guide (they do, but they use it in a different way then you) Believe me, they know what that boat will eventually sell for... But the "market" is in your favor now... Take your time...

PS. You don't need to take a NADA guide or copy to the boat dealer... everyone of them has one in their desk drawer.

I am considering buying a 4-6 bearth sea going crusier. The costs of this type of boat are of course depedant on size and age. However if buying a vessel of this type what should I expect over a 3 year period, the depreciation would be , without using excessive engine hours ?
Should I expect a similar hit as if it were a 50K car ...

don,t know where you live but you really should visit a boatyard or contact a marine/yacht seller.
they will give you all the info you need to know
why not buy the boating mags from your local shops and check out the boat sales and give the boatyards a ring and find out the market from them.

Im looking at a boat that is for sale and on the mercruiser engine it says

Im trying to look up the value on this boat but the nada is asking what is the Engine Size. Can you help me out.
