start engine boat

I have a 96 evinrude112 sp and every time I try to start the boat at the boat ramp trying to launch it takes my forever to start. It takes me about 5-10 turning and turning the motor over just to start it but once it is warned up is start with no problems. And what I wanna know is what can i do to the motor to make it start faster when cold starting??
the boat has always done this ever since I it was new

start by changing the plugs and air cleaner element.cleaning the carbs good might help. is the choke/enrichener working properly? It might be time for a good tune up.carb adjust and clean. my fishing buddy has an evenrude , his advance unit went bad, sounds like a similar problem.

My Boat engine will crank over but not start?
Phi Phi Island

When I try to start my boat engine it will keep cranking until the batteries go dead. It seems as if I'm not getting any spark and yet when I pulled a plug it shows spark. I have replaced the points, plugs, coil, distributor cap, coil wire. The carb is getting plenty of gas. Any ideas? it is a 1987 Seaswirl, 4 cyl.

compression, spark and fuel.

If she gets all three she runs, if she don't she don't.

Compression test: all four should be about the same PSI with no more than 5 or 7% difference between worst and best.

Spark -- it'll probably run on 2 cylinders, but I doubt it runs on 1; check all four for spark.

Recheck your point gap, and your initial timing settings.

If you have good compression and spark all round, rebuild the carb.

Help Me! My boat engine won't start? What's wrong?
starting engine

I asked a similar question a few days ago. I think I know what the problem is. I have pulled the plugs and the engine turns freely. When I put the plugs back in it won't turn. I think this is a compression problem. There might be water in the engine. I guess my question is if I change the oil will the boat start? Has anyone had a similar problem? Thanks

Did any water come out when you cranked it over or rust on the spark plugs? If not water is not the issue. and the motor is probably ok.
You need to look at the starting system. Since the starter will engage, the low amp side if fine, (keyswitch, solenoid) I would start looking at the battery, cables, starter. Start with a known good battery, most auto stores can test it. Are the cables good and clean, no signs of green stuff growing from them, no bulges in the wire to the starter. If those are ok and you still want to go on, the starter is next. Let me know if we need to go there.
Compression is the issue but not the cause, change your oil, no help. Would not hurt, but not needed now.

Help, I can not start my boat engine?

I installed a new Balmar alternator on my boat engine now what do I do with the wire what used to go to D+ on my old alternator. This wire feeds the charging light and the startermotor relais ?

bad hoice there mate, you have to contact the makers as they use odd colours

How do I start rebuilding a boat engine from scratch?

I am trying to find and rebuild a 40 HP outboard engine, any brand would be fine, just as long as I can rebuild it from scratch, what would you recommend to do to start a project like this?

First lay in a good supply of scratch. *grin*

Stick an ad in the paper, 40 HP outboard motor wanted, I will pick up your not running outboard and haul it off for you. Call XXX-XXXX

If you manage to gather some up, decide which is best, dismantle it and see what's needed...if you get two of the same brand and year, you have parts assuming the same thing isn't broken in both of them.

  • how to charge a batter off my outboard? | Wireless Fish Finder

Check to see if your outboard motor has a battery connection. It would if it has an electric starter for it.

Some small outboard motors have a DC Battery chargers on them, yours may have this even it it is a pull (The cord) to start type.

If your outboard motor has a charge circuit or alternator / generator than your good to go. Just hook-up the fish finder 12 volt DC input to the battery, red is positive black is negative. Your done!

If no charger in the outboard motor, just get a deep cycle car battery and hook the fish finder up to that, you should be good for several hours because the fish finder does not draw that much current (Amps). You can look on the name plate of the fish finder to see what the current draw at 12 volts is. This will tell how long it will run on your battery, if you not able to keep it charged-up by the outboard motor.
