Boat Engine Spares

I am assuming the battery in question is junk. I have a spare deep cycle marine battery that I bought for this reason about 7-8 years ago but I am asking what is the life expectancy of a marine battery if it is never placed in commision? Can I use this battery that has been sitting in storage for so long?
Is this battery still considered new or do they have a "shelf life"?
How do you "discharge" a deep cycle battery?

They have a shelf life. A battery should be discharged and charged...not left to destabilize on a shelf.

i have been searching for it everywhere but i cant seem to find a spare and my boat is useless without a working propeller can anyone help?

i was taking it slow and all of a sudden it stopped feeding power. The boat still moves slowly but the engine just revs when i try and accelarate. I was told is was a broken HUB now here is teh question, if i have a spare propellor is it as simple as changing the one that is currently on there? do i need additonal parts? can i change myself?

You might have a small motor with a shear-pin, as opposed to a thrust hub, but you should be able to put the spare on yourself. Good luck!

We got a spare engine for our boat when we got it but its only the engine block and we need parts for it and we dont know where to get any and im having trouble finding stuff for it online because i dont know what engine it is specifically and i dont know how to find that out.

I have a boat that is fitted with two ford transit engines... to the best of my limited knowledge they are 2.5di engines.
If I want to buy any spares I will be asked for more detail..such as what year, what model/mk are they.
Is there any markings on the engine that will give this information

The engine number is normally on a flat casting ledge just under the cylinder heat mounting face.
The unique number will be in the format of 2 letters and 5 numbers if fitted to a Ford vehicle. Something like AB12345. The A signifying the year of production, and the B being the month made.
The 2nd letter is one of a 16 digit revolving sequence... it goes like this LYSTJUMPBRAGCKDE

I know for a fact that DE is April 1983. Therefore D being 1983, and E being April. If you have a later number (post 2000 production) then the year becomes a number, like 1 for 1 etc. The month letter stays. These numbers will help you DATE the engine.

As for the TYPE of engine, the 3 letter code is normally stamped into the gearbox mounting flange of the block. Something like 4F- or 4H- The dash represents a blank where another letter would be...
