Boat Engine Replacement

My boat I/O motor blew up and now I need to replace it but I want to make sure my outdrive is compatable with the new inboard, the old inboard is a OMC 200??? according to the valve covers, the new (used replacement) is a 245 HP OMC, my outdrive is a OMC 800. Can anyone help me??

Sorry I couldn't help more but your talkng what 20 years? THe gear ratio on the drive are not the same as those for a`245. You might be able to use it with a different prop, but it's so old I don't remember all of the possibilities. I think you have a 350 or 351 ci. block now with a drive for a 200 HP outboard. Upper housing sets the gear ratio, and the lower end is simply the shifting prop part of the drive.

Hi Boaties.

The old BMC truck engine has served me well for many a year, but is giving up its' last, despite encouragement and upgrades to do a bit more.

So the Volvo thing arrives, and with a lot of blood, sweat and cussing it is installed and working, with it's 240V gen, and a silly top speed of 12mph.

Not, of course, that I would do that.

Trouble is, the old engine.
Nobody wants it, and the boatyard are a bit fed up.

It would cost me to have it craned onto a road trailer, so I suppose that is what I chould do, is dig a hole for the discovery of archeoligists in a couple of centuries hence.

Any thoughts ?

You could try a local youth organisation like the sea cadets etc who may want it for their "tech section" to work on,or a school that has an engineering/metal work section,advertise it free for collection in a boat mag or failing that clean it up a bit and install it in the garden and allow plants to grow in and around it,

I am shopping for used boat, but see that boats made within the last couple years aleady have replacement engines, why is this

Many times the case is poor maintenance, 1). engine compartment too hard to get to. 2) not changing impeller at regular intervals ---overheating. 3) not maintaining charge on battery for auto bilge----- partial sinking from rain or leak into bilge
4) maintaining oil level/change----seized block 5)dock /marina workers not experienced doing these maintenance chores for you while away. The list goes on along with suggestions from above

I can't seem to find one anywhere!

Try a Michigan Prop number 031064 15" right hand with a 17" pitch - for Mercruiser Alpha One and Bravo One.
