Boat Engine Installation

How much do you think it would cost to install hydraulic steering on my 5.5m zodiac with a yamaha 115 two stroke. There is so much torque and it is so hard to steer with such a big engine. And is it easy enough to install by myself or should i just bring it to a shop.

Helm and ram kit is around $900.00 the Hoses are per ft. And the Labor is per hour best think around $1400 Up for the install.

After a long hard winter of restoring this boat, the engine is now in her spot. Now I just need to warm weather to hit the lake.

Hi, OK deisels have been used many a time as an inboard engine. My narrowboat, and nearly all others have them.

Fine for chugging about in a fishing vessel.

I assume the shaft is at a nice angle from the engine compartement, through a good stern gland to a properly sized prop.

A bit of adjustment & welding, and in goes a suitably sized prime-mover !

Alighnment is crucial, though, as any major vibrations down the shaft will destroy the stern-greaser in its' gland & packing

Depends on budget when fitting a deisel, in that you could have a shiny, marinised Japanese job, or an old BMC truck engine.
They do roughly the same thing.

Hi. I have two engines V8-325Hp on my boat; one is left rotation and other right rotation.
Where can I find drawings for cooling and lubrication?
I have problems with the correct installation of oil hoses to the filter and heat exchangers also water pump hoses from intake filter as well.
The location of my engine is port side (left hand)
I appreciate your quickly response please.

I have run this 26 ft. raw water cooled boat for years with no thermestate getting an engine temp. of 150 when running at a full speed of 25 mph at 4200rpm. Last summer the boat ran slow for the last 4 times out because of what turned out to be a fouled carborator. I was glad to find full power restored this spring with carborator now professionally checked out but reinstalled by me. (Idle air/fuel settings done by the book after installation) The problem is the engine now runs hot (160 at idle up to 190 at 2000 rpm) That gives me 8 mph. A higher rpm will cook the engine. I have checked the temp. sensor and gague for accurace, changed outdrive pump impeller, cleaned manafolds and risors, installed a new engine circulating pump, varified proper timing and timing advance, checked compression and inspected spark plugs which looked too clean so I rechecked carborator settings incase they were too lean and checked for leaks in carborator gasket and intake manefold.

Check and make sure you haven't got a restriction in a water inlet line.Also are there any hoses that could be collapsing and restricting water flow?

I am wondering why some boats have say 1- 90 HP engine and some have 2 -45 HP engines. What is the benefit of the 2 engines? Or, maybe I should say the benefit of one 90 HP engine over the 2 engines.

I've often thought that "twin outboards" are over sold. A single large engine is much more efficent. And a small 15 hp outboard for trolling might be desirable. I think Jtexas has it right!
