Seat Cushion For Boats

It is for a boat and I am unsure if I can put them in the washing machine as I don't know how the vinyl will react. Any suggestions?

I would use upholstery cleaner like Resolve, Folex, Woolite, Spot shot, etc. on the fabric side working it in with a brush until clean. Then I would use regular 409 or other multi-purpose cleaner on the vinyl side. That is how I clean my patio cushions that are constructed like this after learning that the washer shreds the internal foam in the spin cycle.

I know WHERE to buy boats, but need advice on the BEST Make of boat to buy for running around Pensacola bay and up the rivers, need a dependable, safe, comfortable boat with cushioned seats. Which is better? Maxum. ? Bayliner ? or some other make. PLEASE ONLY PEOPLE WHO KNOW BOATS REPLY. and don't tell me where to buy .Thank you

to set your mind at ease let me begin by saying I've been boating since 1984...

Once upon a time I would have recommended Maxum but their quality has slipped tremendously the last few years.

Bayliner has always been thought of as a lower quality boat

What to recommend? Try Chaparral. Yes, I am a big fan of theirs as we have owned 2 over the last 20 years. They have great quality, excellent warranties and they are priced below those such as Sea Ray, Formula, etc. Our 89 2550SX was used for 15 years...looked new when we sold her and got us top dollar on resale value. Our 2004 35' Signature is one of the best looking and well thought out layouts by far.

Try Cobalt and Sea Ray as well for quality but these come with a higher price tag. And there are plenty of manufacturer's with center console boats that would be excellent for the waters you will be on. Boston Whaler and Mako are two that come to mind real quick.

The seats are square and the cushions are fastened on top of plywood - I can remove the entire piece to work on it.

Unscrew the wood from the cushion. Remove the staples holding the old covering in place. When you have the old covering off, split the seams and flatten the pieces. You will use these as your pattern. lay them out in an area 36"x54" (basic width of vinyl fabric is 54") if they exceed the 36" length figure out by feet how much more. This will determine the amt. of you need. ie: 36"=1yd+feet 1/3,2/3. Good to buy more for error or repair. Trace outline of old covering onto back of new. Cut out Sew if necessary, staple it back on, reattach wood. There you go!!!

you live in Ky well you go into your back yard you can find them you might be a red neck if you are looking for boat seats in your back yard :o) or do the red necks do get a cople of lawn chairs and use duck tape lots of it

I have to find the right foam to use for makeing cushions for a seating area in the flybridge of my boat. I have read a little about Qualux Foam. Also I need a foam for inside couch cushions ..perhaps the same foam, but perhaps not neccessarrily quite as resilliant. THANKS!

Any closed cell foam will work on the flybridge. Consult your local trimmer on what brand names they recommend. Check for anti-fungus and anti-shrink properties. Keep in mind that closed cell foam will shrink in time, depends on how the foam is cut. For the interior cushions you can use a regular open cell foam with a density of around 45. 4" thick for seating and 3" for backrests. One tip to prevent fungus growth, shrinking and ease of cover installation is to cover the cushions in plastic. I've use the tall larger garment bags from dry cleaners. It will save your cushions.
