Ski Boat Accessories

We have a Larson I/O. My husband enjoys the built-in radio, but can only listen to it for short durations because it drains the battery needed to start the motor. What alternatives to the main battery are there?

A radio should not drain the battery that quickly. Do you need to have the ignition on to listen to the radio and something else is draining the battery?

I think I am gonna buy this boat tomorrow, but the only problem is that I don't really know much about the boat itself and am having trouble finding information on my own. It will need some fixing up.

I would honestly be surprised if you don't think its worth the money. But I will include what I am getting just in case I missed something.

Its a 16' (or 17' not certain) Tahiti Ski Boat with a Volvo 270 130HP inboard/outboard motor. I was told it was from 1993. The body and paint work are in excellent condition, just a little oxidized and needs a cleaning. Everything mechanically runs well, except the motor needs some work because it overheats and shuts down after 10 minutes of use apparently. The biggest problem is that in interior upholstery is in bad shape and needs replaced. I got him to include water-skis and just about every one of his boating accessories as well. He is also including his trailer which is very nice and in great shape with good tires and everything.

I am paying $300 for all of it... sounds impressive to me but I don't know how much its actually all worth. The main information I need is about the boat itself and the Tahiti line.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it's a bargain. trailer is worth something too. Sounds like it could be a water intake cooling problem and you would have to fix that.
if it had been sitting for a while - maybe something is clogged or a bad heat sensor, faulty pump- look for parts if you can before you buy. Go talk to a repair guy who has neen around for a long time- he'll give you the answer you want. how much and can it be fixed...

I am new to boating I dont know a whole lot but im thinking about buying a 1988 16' Chaparral 162 Bowrider 1992 with 60hp Mariner ss prop he says he using it for sking and has all ski accessories but would that motor be good enough to pull or get up on a wakeboard or ski it is an outboard ofcourse.

If the former owner says he has used it to pull skiers you need to take him at his word. I've pulled skiers behind a 16' boat with a 40HP engine. If you can pull a skier up with the boat then it's much easier to pull a wake boarder because they're already afloat when you start pulling. The fact that it is an outboard is a big advantage. You can always upgrade and replace the motor. If you were buying a 1988 boat with an I/O then you'd have to be careful because if anything goes wrong with the engine or outdrive you'd have to repair it on the boat, and a lot of those older engines no longer have parts available.

My husband and I are thinking about getting jet skis and I found a listing on www.craigslist.com. I e-mailed the seller for more information and pictures, and this is the response I got back:

"I have never had to replace a thing on these skis. Like i said in my ad, the choke knob is missing on the one ski but it doesnt affect its functioning at all so i never bothered to replace it. I did source the part and it came out to be 12 dollars or so if you really wanted to replace the part. Other than that everything is in perfect working order. The trailer is fully tagged and I believe everything was just renewed with PA DOT and the Fish and Boat Commision. As far as price I am negotiable to an extent. Please feel free to call me at 717-309-1146 if you have any other questions or would like to come check out the ski's for yourself."

The asking price for the skis (2) trailer and accessories is $4,500. Links to the pictures will be added shortly. What do you think about the price etc?

for 1) 13 yo and 1) 14yo with trailer i don't think its a great deal. it can be an inexpensive way to get on the water, but don't plan on them going real fast. the advantage is being able to buy 2 and get a dbl trailer. most used ones are singles with single trailers.
