Shoremaster

First, my apologies for this ridiculous question. (This is the first time we've owned a pool so we're clueless.)

My question:
Can you use a floating dock in an inground swimming pool? Like a plastic modular/locking dock system similar to this:

I want to use our pool as deck space during the winter when its too cold to swim.

If I had the money I would buy one of these fancy systems:

but I don't so I'm looking for something cheaper.

I assume there would be a certain amount of water displacement if I used a dock. But there would only be two people on the dock at most. I was told that we can't drain the pool because it might heave or cave in.

Any insights or ideas?
I live in a temperate part of CA, so ice isn't a problem. Do you think it might work then? Maybe I could put padding on the sides of the dock so that it doesn't chip the pool edges...

I would check with the people that you purchased the pool from to make sure these systems could not damage anything such as the lining.
