I am looking at a 2006 Se Ray 185 sport model boat. The boat has a 4.3 Litre engine on it. I dont know much about Ski Boats (other than I want to buy one). I cant find a good site on the internet that might show me what the boat is worth. Are there any good sites out there? Or does anyone have any idea what it's worth? It's in really good condition (hull is taken care of, inside has been covered, etc). Owner is asking $15,000, so I know I can get it for less than that.
Click on the link below and you'll get to the best site to get your info on the boat. It's what most dealers use. Be sure to check the options on the boat to get an accurate value.
I have a 86 Sea Ray Seville that I finally have running and shifting and a small crack in the hull patched. I took it out today and cruised around the lake for about and hour and brought it back in. I load it on the trailer and hear a loud scratch. To my dismay, I gouged a long deep scratch (for lack of better word) in the hull...down to but not into the fiberglass. I am pretty certain I can fill it in and patch it...not too many worries there. My two questions are:
1) what is the outer layer of a hull made out of? it is about an eight of an inch thick, the same color of the hull...definately not fiberglass of any sort.
2) what caused the gouge was a small nail like tip sticking out of the inside of the trailer wheel well. there is one on each side just waiting for the boat to hit them. They stick out about a quarter of an inch and seamingly have no purpose but to gouge the hell out of my boat! What in the world are they there for?
Ok, actually one last question. Could I use some type of apoxy (like marine-tex) to just fill in the gouge, or do I need to put a fiberglass patch over it as well? The inner hull layer of fiberglass is untouched.
Obviously I have to do something to cover up those damn tips ripping into my hull!!
Gel-coat, is simply pigmented polyester resin. The same resin is used to impregnate the glass-cloth that makes up the hull. You can use marine grade epoxy to fill the hull and overcoat it with epoxy paint or gel coat. There is no need to "put a "patch" over the repairs.
If the part of the trailer is not needed. you should cut them off, or if needed (I don't know why they would be, Mount a roller or pad to protect the boat.

Ok. I purchased a 86 sea ray seville, did all the work i could and finally took it to a local marine dealership to have it serviced because I couldn't get it started. They had it back to me that same day. I didn't have a chance to mess with it for almost a week and noticed that the throttle lever doesn't engage the cables any more and it doesn't lock into neutral any longer. Also, all the switched on the helm, bilge, blower, and the trim on the lever work without the key in the on position. I went back to the place and they swear up and down that they didn't touch anything except the engine. Was hopeless trying to argue with them. They said that cables this old get weathered and can just go from working to completely broken just like that. I moved them from forward to reverse several times and they worked smooth as could be, you could see them engaging with the motor cover off. Anyway, all that said, how likey is it that they worked before I took it to the dealership and stopped working after it came back, and no one touched anything? Second, how difficult is it to take the lever apart and try to connect them again and get it to lock into neutral? Any basic instructions on this? I guess I would benefit from buying a service manual for the boat. Any help is much appreciated.
Just wanted to add one thing. When shifting into both forward and reverse, the engine DOES rev up.
Jtexas,
nope, didn't go in their guns blazing, just asked if they had to do anything to the cable to get the engine going. They didn't look at the cable, but she said they don't like working on older boats because the parts are hard to find and things start to snowball; guess they got it started just to be nice and it may just be a coincidence. They are pretty backed up with boats so I didn't expect them look at it unless they actually messed with the lever when they worked on it. I'll take the lever off later and add more detail.
One more thing I just remembered. Once I got it back and noticed the lever not working, I noticed that the starter will engage in forward and reverse, when before it would only engange while locked into nuetral.
Ok, from looking underneath at the throttle lever assembly, the cable is still properly attached, but the metal arm does not move back or forth when you move the lever. The arm that operates the cable that attaches to the throttle control on the carb works fine.
On my Morse control box there is a pin/ knob that can be pulled which disengage the shift function so that I can rev the engine without shifting. When I place the lever in neutral this pin can be pushed in to re- engage the shift to the lever.
Lamp lit sadness lit the pier with intermitting light and dark hollows.
The sea lapped at its wooden supports; like at dog at its water bowl.
A concrete walkway had replaced the old worn noisy timbers

Voices echoed across the water as two fishermen prepared their boat for a

We hear the term "investment bank" on a daily basis. These banks are vilified for their role in the financial crisis and criticized for the profits they reap and the large compensation packages for their employees. But many people have no idea what they are or what they do. Let's take a look at the role i-banks play in the financial services industry and the economy at large. So what is an investment bank? First of all, they are very different than the commercial banks we are all familiar with. They do not take deposits like the retail bank on the corner. Instead, they primarily assist in the buying, selling and issuing of securities - that is stocks, bonds and similar financial instruments. They...
