im being sued for a car accident help?

ok so i was the cause of a car accident in sept of 07. i crashed into a trailor with a boat on it and the boat flew off its trailor into the other lane landing on a car going the opposite direction. thankfully nobody was hurt. the truck pulling the trailor with the boat on it sustained damage to the hitch and back bumper, the boat was screwed up bad, the trailor's frame was all bent out of wack and the car the boat hit was messed up to. i believe it was totaled. i am being sued by the lady who owed the car for 5,ooo bucks. her insurance company is after me too. i blieve i owe them around 12,ooo bucks. now the man who's truck, trailor and boat that i hit is suing me as well. i was not on my phone it was with my brother at my house because he was going to babysit for me. i had to use a lady's phone (to call my mom) who was in one of the cars stopped nearby because the accident occured at a 2 way stop intersection. i failed to stop at the intersection because a soda pop plastic covered bottle rolled beneath my break pedal. i was terrified. im just so glad and fortunate that nobody got hurt. i recieved papers today that i believe are summons papers. im not quite sure what a summons is but its scary. i have to write an "answer" to the "complaint" following chapter 802 regulations within the next 40 days. im 23 year old single parent and a stay at home mother of a 4 year old son with down syndrome. i recieve help from the state to help us with food and i recieve medical assistance for the both of us as well. my son recieves disability ssi from the government and i use that to take care of him. i personally do not recieve any income for myself becuase of many reasons, but not because i am not able to work. i also live in low income housing. in short on that topic, i just feel as though my son needs me really badly right now. his development right now is crucial in the progress he will be making in the rest of his life. i plan on getting a job as soon as he goes to school full time. anyway, im just so scared and i dont know where to turn for help or answers. my concerns are as follows: can they touch my sons benifits from ssi? should i get a lawyer and where would i find one in this case with everything being considered? is it possible that they can put me in jail? how do i write an answer to a question that i dont know? oh, and one of the things on the "complaint" that bothers me alot is that it says that the accident occured on a public highway...which...it wasnt a highway..it was an intersection in town. one was the street i lived on, and the other was another street. so they both have street names and ive never heard of either one of them being called a "public highway" before. i even used to live on the other street when i was a little girl and never heard of it before...this is all confusing and i feel like a nervous wreck. please, please, if anyone out there knows any way that they could help, in any way possible...i would greatly and profoundly appreciate it.
oh, i forgot to mention that i was not carrying any auto insurance at the time of the accident either. (i know, DUMB...)

There is no other way to put this........you are screwed. I own a company that represents insurance companies against at-fault uninsured people.

If you don't answer the lawsuit the court will issue a default judgment against you. This allows the other people or their insurance companies to add interest to the debt. I assume you don't have any money for a lawyer so you might want to see if there is a legal aid office in your area that can help you.

Trust me you will never be able to handle this lawsuit on your own. I have seen people try and it is ugly. There are people who go to college and law school and sometimes they can't get it right.

For God's sake let the "public highway" thing go. It is the least of your worries. In many states the law considers any road that has vehicle traffic a "public highway."

Losing the lawsuit generally won't cost you any of your sons SSI, but I can't promise that.

Find a legal aid attorney ASAP and don't be surprised if they suggest filing for bankruptcy to have this debt discharged.

If you haven't already done so, either buy insurance or stop driving. You would be surprised at how many uninsured people have more than 1 accident in a 4 yr time frame.

Good Luck

Trying to find the name of two books?

First book: A few years back I picked up a book from my library, and for the life of me cannot remember the name of it. I recall in the story the main character was a girl. She went to a museum, if I'm not mistaken, where she had suddenly seen a lot of fire. She freaked out, but no one else had seen it. Afterwards, a young gentlemanly ghost started stalking her. At one point in the story, the girl goes camping, where of course the ghost follows her. She eventually learns she can bring the ghost to her herself, and she ends up learning about the boy ghost. I'm pretty sure the ghost was in love with her.
Also, I think the cover showed the ghost boy standing in the forest, and a bike with a cruddy light (the girl's light on her bike was powered by kinetic energy from pedaling, I remember, so it was a terrible light source in the forest.)

2nd book: I can't for the life of me remember for the life of me where the main character in this story was from, but anyhow, it was during the holocaust, and he lived in a country that was allies with Germany. The book starts off with the main character wanting to go to the movies with his two friends. One of his friends was a jew, and had the jewish star on him. The friend couldn't go to the movies, but the main character decided they should just hide the star where they were and come back for it later. I can't remember how, but the main character's brother gets involved, and goes to the movies with them.
During the movie at the theater a whole bunch of people came in, rounded them up on a train, and sent them off to Germany to work at a labor camp type place. The Jewish boy uses a fake name, as his name is very common among Jews. The main character and his Jewish friend get sent to the same camp, but his brother and other friend are sent to different ones. A boy at the camp discoverers the Jewish boy is circumcised, and the Jewish boy must give up most of his food to keep it a secret.
As the boys built things at the camp, Jews were put into a fenced off area. A connection is made between a little girl in the fence and the two boys. They both give her food at different times. Eventually the Jewish boy dies, and this is when the main boy decides to run away. He doesn't think he'll manage to escape, but sees no point in staying after his friend is dead. Eventually, the main character comes across an abandon town, where he finds a little boy. The boy doesn't speak his language, but they gather up all that's left in the town, and leave together. Something happens and the main character gets lost from the little boy. He finds the boy in a town which turns out to be Russian. He is caught, but the boy helped him to escape, giving him clothes the the townsfolk wore. The main character boated down a river, then, not being caught by anyone for a long while, until a soldier for a country allied with Germany caught him, thinking he was Russian. The boy didn't talk to the soldier for a long while, but the soldier gave away much, telling him that he didn't want to take him, but he had to. After much time, the boy revealed he knew what the man was saying, and that he wasn't Russian. The man then tells him about how he and many others are revolting against Germany.
That's about the end.

As you can see, I remember much more from the second book. If per chance anyone could tell me the names of either of these books, or even suggestions on what you think they may be, it would be greatly appreciated.

The second book sounds like Stones in Water by Donna Jo Napoli
When Roberto sneaks off to see a movie in his small Italian village, he has no idea that life as he knows it is over. German soldiers raid the theater, round up the boys in the audience, and pack them onto a train. After a terrifying journey, Roberto and his best friend Samuele find themselves in a brutal work camp, where food is scarce but horror is everywhere. The boys vow to stay together no matter what. But Samuele has a dangerous secret, which, if discovered, could get them both killed
