I've been given an original writing assignment, my teacher says I've got to describe a scene, focus on the description not just the plot. it just needs to fill two sheets of A4 paper. Here's what I've got

It was an obscure region of the jungle, evening was giving way for night, and not much could be heard, save for the gentle plip plop of paddles in the stream, and the collective whisper of the insects. Vapour rose from the water and clung to the sweltering air, rendering each thirsty breath disappointed. Exotic flowers were abundant and rich with variety, and could be seen dotted throughout the overgrowth which engulfed the view. The trees formed an arch overhead, branches forming a canopy of dense foliage through which beams of orange-purple light seeped, illuminating the shrouded stream and casting a surreal, negative quality upon the place.

A tree could be seen closing in ahead, just on the stream’s edge. It seemed withering and without nourishment, standing out in front as if it were a runt, rejected by the others. The branches were now scarce, but on one of the few remaining, there sat perched a lone bird. It was jet black in colour, with a sharply contrasting deep red breast which trailed to form an ornate pattern around its eyes. It echoed the same coo, never ceasing. It seemed to fill the air with foreboding, a warning, a bad omen. With every coo, the feeling of dread grew. Looking past through the backdrop of huddled trees, all seemed static.

Something moved.

An animal shrieked nearby, and the bird flew away. I snapped out of it, and took a sip of water, wiping the steam off of my glasses. The heat must have been getting to me.

“You OK, boss?” Steve chuckled.

The cheer never seemed to leave Steve. He was a native tour guide hired out by the company to come along for the expedition, he navigates the boat, and I do the research. I couldn’t pronounce his real name, so he said I could just call him Steve. What a nice guy, I thought.

That's it.

basically what im trying to describe is:
me n steve goin down tha jungle stream in a boat, researchin n all that
describin n stuff
see this bird, a bad omen
attempt to build tension (fail to build tension)
spot something in the trees
animal shrieks, snappin out of it
???

i think it needs a lot of work and i dont know how to end it, any advice would be greatly appreciated
