I would like to put a tight cover on an 18 foot boat and trailer it 26 hours at 70 mph. What kind of cover should I use.
If you read the fine print, most boat/mooring covers say they are not intended for use while trailering. However, if the cover is well made and has good support and is well secured, I've pulled boats 50-100 miles with no damage. Lighter covers well not take the winds you are suggesting. I'd think about shrink rapping like the factory does when shipping. And, I'd slowdown to 55 or so. You'll save fuel and reduce the stress on boat and trailer. Good Luck!

Can anyone tell me how to care for the cover of our PWC? The herons like to sit on it when we have it moored at the lake. I need to remove bird droppings and it is also becoming kind of brittle. Is it safe to wash in a washing machine? Is there anything I can spray it with to make it last longer. It is only used in fresh water. Thanks!
If its a vinyl-like cover, like a snomobile cover and even some grill covers, I would use your basic automobile soap/water bucket, and a bristle brush to scrub. Beyond that, they sell vinyl conditioner spray bottles at the auto stores. Most of these have a UV factor in them to protect a little from the sun, and also cleans and conditions the material. Dashboard cleaners for inside the car are basically the same thing, like Armor-All.

The mooring cover is secure. everything else is dry, i.e. carpeting. i vaccumed all the water out a few weeks ago and now there is enough to get your feet wet. why?
all of the above also does this boat have a galley with fresh water supply if so check fresh water tank for leaks. put food coloring in tank and any built in coolers & live well tanks different colors in each.
What can we cover this with that will be lasting and keep the tire from putting black marks on our boat when they rub together
Check your local fire dept(s) for retired hose....install along circumference with bolts & fender washers with adequate gathers to prevent contact with bolt heads. Gathers mean extra material betwixt bolts to extend out from tire. Could also get swimming noodle of proper O.D to fill hose...that's a better idea...actually.
Or don't be so cheap & un-nautical & buy a mooring ball. or a buoy to hold chain up.
I want to take a trip to the Caribbean, and my friend suggest bartering to cover all my port fees, mooring fees and cruising taxes. Is this true? Where do I start?
Cruising through and around the Caribbean is cruising in the most beautiful waters in the world. I highly recommend it. It is also some of the safest waters to cruise in the world, which makes it an excellent training ground for new sailors.
However, "bartering" is for shops & shopping. You won't be able to barter entrance fees, or port fees - that in fact - is government controlled - and could be construed as a bribe and possibly land you in jail.
"Cruising taxes?" I don't know what you are referring to here, but my son makes his living cruising around in the Caribbean, and we both have been just about everywhere you can possibly go in it, and we've probably been there more then two or three times - and I have no idea what "cruising taxes" are.
As of late, there is a $100 entrance fee for cruising in the Caribbean. When you check in to customs, you pay it once, it is good for the entire Caribbean, and it is good for as long as you are there. Other then that, you can anchor out in a beautiful cove for free, or you can pay to stay at a Marina on islands that have them - if you want to barter that, feel free to try.
But far the most part - (if you have the money) a cruiser can buy almost everything in the Caribbean and have it shipped (mailed) home to the US (marked for personal use) on a duty free and tax free basis - So, what is there to barter other then the price you pay for the item? Certainly not the duty or the taxes.
Don't know who gave you this advice, but my guess is they have never been there (except maybe on a cruise ship) but certainly not in a private recreational cruising vessel.
