Making Boat Cover

I'm a sewing machine technician and will tell you... YES. Most any sewing machine will sew what you want with the right thread, needle and tension setting. But the question is for how long? Not very long with the newer plastic machines. The gears will not hold up and the belt might slip or motor burn out.. For this type of machine you need one of the old ones with all steel gears and preferably one without a belt like a Singer 15-91 or a Singer 201. These are not that hard to find. ebay, Craigslist etc. Even an old one with a belt will do OK like a Singer 66 (most common) but be sure to have the proper needle, maybe a size 18 and change them every couple of hours. Thread also matters, you need upholstery or button thread. The heavier the fabric the looser the upper tension needs to be. Practice on scrap until its good top and bottom. Also you will need to adjust the presser foot pressure so it will feed right. There are attachments called a Walking Foot that you can attach that will move the top layer of material along with the bottom layer. These help immensely.

I'm currently making a boat cover for my sailboat. I'm using canvas because I have the material readily available to me. I'm concerned that my seams may leak. I plan on coating the cover with waterproofing spray to help shed water and leaves. The seams will be under stress and I'm looking for something other than the waterproofing in a can in which to seal the joined pieces and still afford protection from leaks. If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

Triple stitched, flat felled seams in canvas should not leak without any sealant. I have a cover from the below link for last NINE years in year-round sun & it is still in good condition. Cover was 6 or so years old at least when I got it but was winter stored under cover.

They may have example of the above. Also if the canvas is not UV protected you are wasting your time & energy.
Sell the canvas & buy the cover....

I need to know what to buy and how to make fibreglass! I think it is just fibreglass mat and resin, then put the mat on the area and coat with resin. The paint over. Please tell me if this is correct.

I need to make some internal covers for my boat cushions/beds.
these are approx 7 ft in length.

I have the foam which is in good condition so just need to make the covers. what sort of fabric should i use/avoid. Not bothered about it being waterproof as its a dry area..
