I have a large boat dock with styrofoam floats that is floating in a lake. My lake is requiring that the styrofoam floats be replaced with encapsulated floats. Has anyone ever done or had this done? If so, how is it done? The lakeside is very steep and deep so grounding the dock is out of the question. I imagaine that a barge either has to lift the dock corner by corner or some type of inflatable device could be inserted and inflated to raise it enough to slip out the old float and slip in the new one.
Well before you get ready to empty your bank account, when you first installed the float, was it ok to use that kind of floatation?
If so, and it isn't ilegal to use styrofoam in your state, you may be grandfathered into being able to keep your float just the way it is.
You may want to get a legal opinion from a local lawyer just to cover yourself, but I don't think they have a leg to stand on unless you just want to be nice.....
What is their reasoning for wanting you to change?
If you still have to deal with that issue, then there is some other options to work with at that time, but until then, I wouldn't get too worried until you have established that you "have" to change. Too many people come up with regulations and push them off on other people "Just Because" when they have no rights to do so.
Good Luck!

My friend tells me Naval ships never had lift boats.. And I say they did if you consider there sea to shore boats that where used and I'm sure some boats today still carry inflatable boats in order to reach the shore with out docking. These boat could in turn double as life boats. Not to mention each one had an inflatable life vest. So My friend's morbid but stern opinion that naval ships never had life boat and men where just left to there deaths if a ship went down just can't be true. Or is it?
Thank you all. I was on the spot and couldn't find any info on the web.. Guess I just wasn't using the right search words.. but this is proof enough.
navy ships don't have the room a cruise ship has to have dedicated "life boats" for everyone. They do have between 2 to 6 motor launches that can carry probably 25% of the crews; in WW2 up to the 60's, they had whats known as Carly floats....big doughnut- letter 0 shaped things made of wood or even balsa... (you see on the turrets of WW2 cruisers and battleships, or placed around the decks of destroyers) which could support people in the water but not keep the sharks away....see USS Indianapolis for a gruesome story......
with the tremendous advances in inflatable liferafts since WW2 Navy ships now carry inflatable liferafts for 150% of the crew.
Find a picture of a modern carrier....see all those white or gray painted cylinders around the deck edge? Look like big 55 gallon drums? Each one is a 25-50 person capacity liferaft with a canopy, food, water and med supplies.
Indianapolis sank quickly; Jeneau blew up with everyone aboard; but other than that the USN spends A LOT of effort in searching and rescuing their own..
Your friend has issues.......

first, i was at crew(rowing) but instead of boats, we were pushing the airplanes, and i got inter-tube by my coach when they were saying that i wasn't there for the starting?
then i ran into the building outside of the planes because i was cold, and as i was trying to get back i got sprayed by this shower that this girl i hate was turned on. and she said "i was just trying to steel your dryness"(???) then i walked farther and into this food court which was in an airport for some reason. and i met there with my mom and her boyfriend, and they took me home, but they took me to my dads house. and i just remember walking into a room watching my moms boyfriend try to hurt my puppy... so i ran away from the room and looked outside and saw the dog, os i went out there and i held him, and i told him we're leaving. and this bus stopped then passed us.. then i began to call my boyfriend but he wouldn't answer any if the time, and i was thinking that he was doing coke and just didn't wanna admit it to me. so i took a bus all the way to his house, with my dog, which was really far, then i knocked on the door and he wasn't there so i went to this neighborhood where he always hangs out and i talked to some friends and he wasn't there..
then i suddenly ending up in a car with him, and he wasn't paying any attention to me. and we went to this girls house who was having people over to watch a movie in their in house movie theater (which is bigger than the average size) and he disappeared, then m sister showed up (being only 2 years older) and was freaking out how i was there. and people left then i was trying to find my boyfriend but instead i found a computer, and went on myspace to see if he went on, and he had all there's new pictures labeled california. and all of a sudden i was in one of them,
i began to make my way to a near by town and found him to, i finally grabbed him as he quickly said come on, we sat on a inflatable boat with 4 slots in it, and in each slot there was two people who sat there. my boyfriend went in one with that girl i hate, and i went in one with an old friend.the boat lifted up into the sky and dove down but whole we were going through the clouds nobody put the parachute on and i was freaking out in my head.

1. Your light truck weighs 3,500 kg. You drive up a gentle slope that is 0.5 km long. at the top of the slope you are 200 m higher in elevation than when you started. Assuming no friction, what force has your engine exerted to drive up this slope?
A. 7000N
B. 12,000N
C. 14,000N
D. 20,000N
2. In Physics the "desire of an object to keep doing what it is doing" is termed _______.

c. resiliency
d. inertia
3. John loads a collapsed inflatable boat into a two wheel "grocery type" handcart and wheels it down to the lake. While the cart is being wheeled it is tipped at about a 45-degree angle (in other words, about halfway between horizontal and vertical). John finds this tiring because he has to pull fairly hard to move the cart. After hearing a friends suggestion, he tries an experiement. He uses an eight-foot long board to lengthen the underside of the cart. (the side of the cart that faces downward while the cart is tipped and being pulled along). The end of the board serves as a new extended handle for his cart. Now when he goes to pull his longer cart, he is pulling the cart at a 20-degree angle (much closer to the ground than before. What will happen?
A. The cart will be even harder to pull now because it is lower to the ground.
B. The cart will be even harder to pull now because of the extra weight of the board
C. The cart will be easier to pull, in spite of the weight of the board, because now the angle of pull is much closer to the angle of movement
D. There is no real change because it takes the same amount of work to pull a given amount of weight no matter how you pull it.
You Set up a pulley to help you lift something. You anchor the rope at one end and arrange a moveable pulley to achieve a mechanical advantage of 2. By the time you have lifted the object 5m off the ground, how much rope have you pulled through the pulley?
a. 2m
b. 5m
c. 7m
d. 10m
160J of work was needed in order to move an object 8m across a floor. What was the force (in N) that was needed to do the job?
a. 20N
b. 30N
c. 40N
d. 60N
When comparing the force that is required to climb a mountain by walking up a trail that slopes gently upward to the top versus getting there by scaling a sheer vertical ciff face, which of the following is a TRUE statement?
a. You use more force for a given distance of movement on the walk than the climb
b. Walking up the trail forces you to cover a greater distance, but the amount of force needed to cover a given distance will be less.
c. Scaling the vertical cliff, while dangerous, uses less force than going the gentler way around.
d. The distance covered is the same either way, but scaling the cliff is harder because you are working against gravity.
THANKS IN ADVANCE!
it's the summer, im not even in school. not considered cheating lolol.
