Chris Craft Deck Boat

Classic 1940’s - 1960’s Chris Craft recommendations?

I’m looking into buying a classic Chris Craft wooden boat and was wondering what boat would be good for the ocean (live on the Boston North Shore). I like the look of the Capri, Riviera or Custom Runabout but think the open deck like the Continental and Sportsman might suit us better. Are these boats capable of regular salt water activity? How do they handle?

For big water, the Chris Craft Sea Skiff is probably the best way to go. The classic runabouts that you mention are lousy in more than a 1' chop. The Sea Skiff can handle rougher water while keeping the crew dry.

The SeaSkiff is Chris Smiths (grandson of ChrisCraft founder) personal boat of choice for these reasons.

Will this boat be good to ski behind?

My friends and i are looking to buy a boat for not too much money and saw an 86 19' front deck Chris Craft cavalier with 140 hp mercruiser engine. Could it pull up two teenage boys approx 160lbs on 2 skis? And if not then what horse power is needed to do do that?

I f U prop it correct and the engine is running good Yes don't see Y not.

How to install speakers into my boat?

I've got a 35' 1880 Chris Craft, with a large upper deck, and it doesn't have an audio system. I'm thinking of putting in a marine stereo, and at least speakers. How would I go about installing speakers into fiberglass? I guess they would need to be cut out, and speaker wire somehow run through the deck to them? Any suggestions?

Have installed many sets even Poly Planer $1000k speakers they last maybe 1 yr in salt water conditions. Your call where to but them I haven't found any safe place that keeps them out of the weather.

What type of boat is shown in this Hydroxycut TV commercial?

There is a very annoying TV ad for Hydroxycut (some kind of weight loss pill?) that caught my eye - but not because of the 'I lost 40 pounds in ten minutes' spiel or the before and after photos. Rather, in the middle of the ad they show "Catherine from Texas" and in the background is a gorgeous power boat with a deep blue hull color and a wooden deck.

Can anybody tell me what manufacturer and model (and year?) of boat that is? It has classic lines that remind me of a 1950's Chris Craft, but I'm a sailor and not a power boater, and so I'm just not that familiar with power boat models.

There's a blurry screen capture that shows the boat at http://s56.photobucket.com/albums/g181/l argetype/?action=view&current=hydrox ycutboat.jpg

Can anybody point me in the right direction? Thanks...

It may be a Riva. Here is a pic and you can also Google image "RIVA"

Post - Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club | Boat Buzz

I've never heard of anyone making complete tops for Continentals, and the chances of finding a good factory top "ready to install" would seem pretty small. Our Continental came with the deck brackets for attaching the bows, but no bows or canvas. In talking it over with another Continental owner, it was decided that fabricating new bows from stainless tubing and have an upholstry shop make a new top would be the way to go. I have photocopies of factory photos showing the top installed. I can scan and e-mail these, if you would like. In spite of everything said above, we have owned the boat for 25 years and still don't have a top for it. I've been told that it requires being a contortionist...
