Boat Enclosure

Are these for truly camping on the boat, or are they just a glorified wind/sun shade? Have you ever camped on the water with the above set up? Any downsides? Any help/ guidance is greatly appreciated- Thanks!

If it is a true "camper canvas" package, then yes you can camp on the water with them. A camper canvas (enclosure) package includes a bimini top, with side, front and aft curtains that may or may not have zip-out panels with bug screens in them. Camper canvas packages are awesome and the only way to go if you get stuck in the weather or if you're looking for a weekend outing with the family/friends. They're dry for the most part, and keep the heat in if it gets a little chilly at night. The only real downside is the fact that when they're new, sometimes they don't like to fit all that well (they need to stretch sometimes) and the side curtains will act like a sail if it's windy and you're trying to dock. But all in all, the pros sure do outweigh the cons in this situation. Go for the camper package..it also adds a little resale value to your boat as well.

I'm sure that there are any number of canvas shops in your area. What you are describing is commonly referred to as a camper canvas. The boat you have might have had camper canvas as an option and that would be less expensive than custom made, but check with dealers in your area, they can put you in touch with a canvas shop!

I'm installing a Stereo in my boat and i want to run my speaker wires from my center console on the floor to my seat cooler that i sit on..I am using the seat cooler as an Enclosure...Is there something I can use to cover the wires up ?

Conduit or channel. It is not a good plan to have wiring on top of a deck, a false deck can be fitted in that area between the console and the seat with gently angled edges to eliminate tripping hazards. Your wires can be run under this in conduit to eliminate abrasion and any water contact - if you make the false floor sealed or allow water under it is up to you - but if you choose the latter it must be easily removed for cleaning.

My current enclosure has three back panels, 2 side curtains, 3 panels for front of boat and the canvas top. Three back panels all have screens with zippers. I just don't want to be ripped off on the price.

I had the same done on my 32 ft cruiser with 11 ft beam last summer up in the Thousand Islands area of NY state. It cost $2600 using the existing frames from my old tops. I only have a screen in my back panel - none on the sides. This seemed to be a reasonable price to me.

I obtained several estimates first and checked into the reputation of each, which I highly recommend. I didn't go with the lowest price (which was around $2400) because I found several people who were unhappy with their work .

This is a big investment, so you may be better off to pay a little more and get it done right.
