Boat Cover Support

I could really use some help on this one. I am looking for a way to support my pontoon boat cover. I've tried some support systems on the market: 1x2's bowed, pole supports with straps, but nothing seems to hold my cover up and most of these items just buckle under pressure and I end up having a swimming pool on my cover. I really don't know what else to try. If somebody knows a way please help me. Don't want my boat getting trashed anymore. I live in SE GA and we get rain almost everyday. Thanks for the help!

I use the cover and the cover support pole from the company below. Works really well. I live in TN and it has held up well to our rain! Hope this helps.

hi there, from your question i can't tell if you want to make one or want to know if they are availible on the market. i am not sure if there is a place that sell them,at least i couldn't find one, so i made my own, i have an open18 foot aluminium with a center consol,first i found out where my crossers were going to be placed across the gunnel, i measuered under the gunnel across in 5 places and cut 1inch pvc 2 feet longer than each measurment.then i measuered the space bettween each crosser down the length of the boat, keeping the stern one clear of the engine front, the subtracted 2 inches from each of the measuerments except for the front one and the back one. these were only one inch shorter,now you need 10 tees, 5 for each side, starting at the stern measuerment glue a tee to the pipe, this is best done on a long flat surface, glue the next tee and next pipe and so on up the length of the boat keeping all the open ends of the tees pointing up, let these dry, when they are set and don't move on the pipe, put in the crossers the way they were measured to cross the boat, do not glue these peices in, now drop one side in the boat with the other side hanging over, the opposite gunnel, now you need three people to get ends and center of the overhang , just push and walk straight in to the boat and snap the pipe under the gunnel, now it looks like a covered wagon, i then took a full length of pvc and zip tied it to the outside of the arcs at the top, then covered the boat with tarp for the winter,going on its 6th season with no problems.... hope this helps, happy boating

I have a vinyl cover with the cotton lining. There are vents that are where the support poles go. It's very durable and has lasted about ten years. No one online has anything like this. I've googled. Any suggestions?

There is a canvas shop in the community where I live. They make custom boat covers. As a matter of fact the local marina told me they get all their covers there even if stock covers are available because the price is so reasonable and the quality is good. I am looking for information about building a boat out of fiberglass. A former co-worker told me that I may be able to build a frame, cover it in chicken wire, then news paper / kraft paper, and then fiberglass. The idea is that the frame supports the chicken wire, which supports the news paper / kraft paper, which in turn prevents the fiberglass from drippig through the chicken wire. It sounds nutty, but feasible to me. Does anyone know weather or not I should this? How would you build a light weight fiberglass boat? Thanks for your input, have a great day!

You can build different ways , but your suggestion don't' do it .... I have extensive experience with fiber glass , that said ... here are some suggestions: , one the easiest , make a female mold of your boat out of 1/2 inch medite boards , so in effect is a one time mold , you make the ribs on the out side and line it so you end up with a female mold , then clean it up and lay in side of it about 5 coats of separation wax , polish it and your last coat separation compound for molds , then spray or roll in side your white or colored jell coat , let it harden up and begin the proses of laying down about 4 layers of fiber glass mat and roving impregnated with the resin , then with glassing foam create ribs and floor members at intervals of 2' , this for up to 30' of boat , you have to at least have some plans for details and spacings of bulk heads . Once you have finished the glassing dismantle the out side framing that goes in the garbage , and the you have to do some polishing of the smooth out side , remember to be very clean in the construction of the female mold , the smoothest finish in the inside the easier to separate the two parts , but with the sheets of medite they brake up easy , good luck .

i bought a boat and it came with a boat cover and half of something else. it has snaps all around it and has tubular supports. the snaps snap on the top of the windshield. what is this thing called so i can orderone.if put on boat the driver can drive and stay dry.it also goes past the windows on the sides. i have a bayliner capri.19ft long. please help me with this cuz i need one complete

I know what you are talking about but I too can't remember what they name of it is. I had one for my '86 Capri and you can buy one for your boat at iBoat.com. They have a wide asortment of half covers for all types of boat is you navigate the website.
I bought a full custom cover for my 21ft Glastron for around $650 with 5 year warranty. I also bought a custom sun cover made to fit.
