It started raining this morning for a minute or so then stopped I asked my father if we should put the cover on the boat because it's gonna rain again. He said no then it started raining after 10 minutes of it raing pretty hard I went out and did it on my own (very hard to do alone) then my brother cones by and takes it off because when it wasn't raining my father said that he wants to let it dry out and now it's raining, I just draped the cover over the cockpit but would rather it be on proper also now my mother is saying what good will it do.
It has a wood floor!
Exept wood flooring in a boat from 1989!
I would cover it until it stops raining then open it up to dry out. Then once it's dry keep it covered when not in use and you want have to worry about it again. Don't leave the cover on for long with it wet inside, you will have yourself a mold factory.

Looking to purchase bow and cockpit covers for a 2000 209 Caravelle. Anyone know where I can purchase them?
Check around the local marina to see who does good marine upholstery and have the covers custom made with Sunbrella material. You'll need to have snaps installed on the boat. Well worth the cost for a good custom cover. Don't settle for a cheap cover. Where I am my cockpit cover cost > $800 for about the same size boat. Where the snaps are on the cover should be a wide quality backing to support the snaps and allows you to grab the cover to snap the cover on. You will want a support sewn in the cover to support a pole and maybe vents to circulate fresh air.

Why would you want to pay anything for a boat with a blown engine? Unless you are a Marine Mechanic with a lot of extra time on your hands, I can't think of one good reason you would even consider it. Especially now... with so many great used boats on the market at some of the best deals of the century.
For the past few years, I have been seeing some of the greatest and most unbelievable used boat deals in my 40 year boating history. With all this going on, I simply can't believe anyone would consider buying a boat in today's market that doesn't run.
If you want a great boat, that runs, and at a steal of a deal... you just need to spend some time where all the boats are... Get to the Marinas, and to the water... be patient and "work" at finding yourself a fantastic deal on a used boat that you can take for a test drive, and put it through its paces before you buy...
The deals are there, you just have to find them.
Besides, you have no idea of what else could be wrong with that boat, and you won't know until after you buy it, and spend the money to get it running. How do you know the transmission works? What if it pulls hard to port? What if it doesn't float level in the water? Or won't plane?
Believe me, you are better off knowing the answer to all these questions - before you buy.
Good Luck,
John
Hi I am looking at a boat here is the description:
2001 Four Winns 180LE Bow Rider. Immaculate boat. Volvo Penta engine w/190hp. 490hours. 2 props (factory and stainless steel), power steering. Bimini cover, bow and cockpit covers. AM/FM/CD player w/ 4 speakers. Extended swim platform w/ extended ladder. Button down carpet. Console cluster guage (depth gauge, water temp, clock). Comes with trailer (used only 4 times). $10,990
Is this too many hours? How long until engine mantinance? This will be used for cruising around and for water sports like tubing, wakeboarding, kneeboarding and skiing. Is this enough hp for that and with some people on board?
I've taken this exact problem to my mechanic and good friend...he does alot of boat work, inboards and outboards. He says you can get 1000 hours EASY, if the engine is maintained, winterized and taken care of--he can get 2000 hours out of a good motor.
I bought a 1997 maxum last season, it had 380 hours on it--thats a ten year old boat. This boat you speak of is about 6 years old? She comes with a lot of hours for its age--just means the folks that owned it took her out--like they should!
I would ask why they want to sell it, what kind of maintenance records do they have? Plus any problems with the motor, and lower unit? Check the NADA value and see what your mechanic thinks.
190 HP? Assuming that's V-6? That should tow anything you want--just have to watch how many people you pack into the boat itself.
Kayakers recount deadly crocodile attack in Congo
For weeks, three kayakers exploring a series of rivers through the heart of Africa had come together in close defensive formation designed to ward off hippo and crocodile attacks whenever they paddled the quiet green glides between thundering stretches of whitewater.
The boaters — two Americans and a South African — traveled some 1,000 miles of river this way, through the densest concentrations of man-killing wildlife in the world. They were paddling in synchronous strokes, just 4 or 5 feet from each other, on a quiet stretch of the Lukuga River in Congo when a crocodile slipped up from behind and ripped trip leader Hendri Coetzee from his tiny red plastic boat.
With no time to do anything but say "Oh, my God!" Coetzee was gone, hauled beneath the green water never to be seen again.
"The crocodile just pulled him right underwater," Chris Korbulic told The Associated Press in a telephone interview from Reno, Nev., where he was visiting his brother. "I think we both were just in complete shock and disbelief and absolutely horrified at what had just happened." For about 20 seconds after the crocodile grabbed Coetzee by the shoulder and overturned his boat, the craft shook as the crocodile pulled him from the tight-fitting cockpit, Korbulic said.
Korbulic and Ben Stookesberry got off the river, composed themselves, then continued downstream, taking out at a village. Coetzee's body has never been found and he is presumed dead.
Stookesberry, 32, of Mount Shasta, Calif., and Korbulic, 24, of Rogue River, Ore., are world-class kayakers who have gone where no boat has gone before to navigate the melting snows of the Himalayas in Northern Pakistan and India, towering waterfalls in Brazil, and boulder-stewn creeks in Costa Rica, California and British Columbia.
With primary sponsorship from Eddie Bauer Inc.'s First Ascent line of outdoor gear, they had partnered with Coetzee, a top whitewater guide based in Uganda, to follow the White Nile, Lukuga and Congo rivers through snowcapped mountains, steaming jungles, and rolling hills covered in elephant grass.
They also hoped to bring attention to the crisis of millions of people dying from poor water quality in a region overflowing with water.

African Kayak River Venture Cancelled After Guide Is Eaten Alive “There are 3-ton hippos that will bite you in half,” one of the American kayakers wrote on his blog, quoting Mr. Coetzee, who was known as Hendri. “Stay off the banks because the crocs are having a bake and might fancy you for lunch. Basically, stay close behind me and follow my lead. Any questions?”

Folly, pure folly. Crocodiles are a constant menace to villagers living on the larger rivers. Many years ago, shortly before I arrived in Congo, a Nile Crocodile grabbed the East German Ambassador just outside the capital city of Kinshasha. He was never seen again. And crocodiles aren't the greatest menace. The eastern Congo, where the Lukuga River is located, is still in a low-grade civil war. Nobody is safe there.
