Baja Boat Cover

Baja Islander 18' nice boat but would like to 'refresh' paint/decals.Need to wetsand and polish,rubbing compound? Not sure!
Also cover is faded,can you run the cover thru large industrial washing machie with dye?

Before you wetsand try 3M fiberglass restorer wax. Its made to bring faded finishes back. If that does not do it then wetsand, polish.
If the cover is in good shape and just needs treating, you could get a few cans of Fabric Guard that will water-proof it again or send it to Sunbrella Industries for a complete treatment to freshen it up.

I took my 95 Baja Islander 4.3 engine to the shop to replace the starter and they told me there is water in the cylinder. I briefly had 2 plugs out last weekend to check the condition but immediately replaced them. I also washed the boat before I tried to start it and I lifted the engine deck and water could have possibly gotten into the engine compartment. Other than that, this same shop winterized the boat last fall and it has a cover and a tarp over it in the winter. What kind of damage could have been done and who could be at fault? I have yet to start it this year so I know no water was ran through it.

Have you had the boat in the water? If so, there is a chance that the engine has "hydro-locked". Water enters the exhaust, sometimes due to wave action at the stern of a moored boat, sometimes because of a low stern. Anyway, the water makes it's way past the exhaust elbow, and into the cylinders through open exhaust valves. When your boat is moored, does at least 4 " of the outdrive stick out of the water? If not, hydro-lock is a good possibility. When a cylinder is full of water, the starter cannot turn the engine over (water doesn't compress like fuel/air. This may be diagnosed as a faulty starter.
