I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 with 4.7L V8, it is a quad-cab, 4-WD, SLT. It has the automatic transmission with overdrive (not sure if that is 4 speed gears or 5 in that transmission but its the standard auto tranny that comes mated to the 4.7L engine). Today I was towing a very small trailer (you can lift it in the air on each side, its for a 14' john boat) - I towed this trailer (empty, no boat on it) for a distance of about 90-100 miles on the highway - I put the transmission in Tow mode which I assume turns the high overdrive gear off to prevent burning the tranny.(??) Well about 3/4 of the way into the trip, I stopped at a gas station - when I got back out on the highway, the transmission was suddenly "Stuck" in what seemed like 2nd gear (3rd at the most, not sure) - It would suddenly NOT upshift to the next gear, just stayed in the lower gear all the way up to 55 and 60 mph. Of course at those speeds the tach was up around 4000-5000 RPMs. (normally would run 1500 to 2000 RPMs on highway at speed). Is there any kind of defect or known problem with these Chrysler transmissions? Any experienced mechanics out there know what this problem is being caused by, is it Major, Minor, ?? Maybe a temporary engine computer glitch I am hoping? The "Check Engine" light finally came on - I drove the remainder of the trip home (about 30 miles) at very low speed around 40-45mph and it seemed to be taching about 3000-3500 RPMs at that speed. This truck is almost like brand new, I am the first and only owner of it - it ONLY has about 16,000 miles on it !!! I am hoping this is not some kind of Major transmission failure especially on a 4x4 truck (which has 2 transfer cases doesn't it ??) My only hope, if it does turn out to be Major is that I bought the truck in November of 2006 so the 3 yr/36k warranty on drive train is good until November of this year, right?? Would Chrysler's 3/36k factory drivetrain warranty cover this? Does it have deductibles? Should I DUMP THIS TRUCK ?? !!!!! I don't know what the heck to do at this moment !!!! I plan to go to the dodge dealer on Monday. Thanks for advice and help especially from experienced mechanics or people who had same problem with this type of truck.
Thanks Moparman and DodgeDude for the good answers - Dodgedude, would that repair (governer pressure switch) parts and labor be covered under the chrysler 3 yr/36k drivetrain warranty fully, or would I have to pay any deductibles do you know?? god forbid its Not covered !!!!

the 45rfe trans is actually a very good transmission. We have not had too many problems with them. Although dodgedude is correct that governor pressure sensors and transducers do go out all the time, that is actually on older model transmissions, and yours does not have what he is talking about. Most likely when you have the code read, it will be a under or overdrive solenoid curcuit failure code, and especially on this year model, the way to fix the problem is actaully be replacing the pcm (power control module), the reason is this module is also your transmission control module and your engine module in one. I would be interested to know what the code is on your truck.
