where can i get boat seat covers?

where can i get seat covers or get seats redone in ms or al at a good price for a 1997 seadoo challenger jet boat 15'. or does anyone do them.

Look for a boat canvas shop or a upholstrey shop of any kind in your area, call a few to find the best price. If you or anyone you know has a good sewing machine then you or they can just make new ones from the pattern of they old ones. It's not very difficult if you can use a machine. Good luck.

Is there a boating course that will cover more than one state?

I am looking to be able to boat in Wisconsin and Indiana and I am wondering if there is a class that will cover both states. I am 15.

For most US states, the if you meet the following criteria below, you will be fine to operate a vessel in another US state

1. You have passed a NASBLA approved state's boater education course and have received a state issued boat education ID card showing proof.

Check first to make sure that the boat education ID from your state is acceptable in the state you are going to. Most states do approve of NASBLA approved or USCG boat education ID credentials as proof of boat education ID.

2. Meet the minimum age requirement for the type of vessel being operated. Some types of vessels have different age requirements in different states.

3. Have your state's boat education ID card onboard the vessel you are operating at ALL times.

4. Observe and follow all boating laws and regulations in the state you operate the vessel in, since different states have different boating regulations.

Just take the boater education course in the state in which you live in and pass it. Then use the boat education ID card in both states, since both states

Has anyone ever Added an extended swing tongue on their boat trailer?

Trailer is 17 ft with 15 ft tri hull on on it. When putting boat in often the back wheels of my ford ranger are in water. Couple times got stuck wheels spinning on slime covered ramps. Wanted to know if its worth extending the tongue of my trailer rather then go through expense of buying a cheap 4x4 truck.
It won't fit in my garage if I extend length of trailer so I have to install a swing tongue on it.

I'm concerned about the balance of weight on trailer if I add on to it.

It will work just fine.As for balancing the trailer this is not hard either. To accomplish this all you need to do is move the Axel on the trailer. You want about 100lb.of tongue weight so you will need to move your Axel forward.I hope this helps.

How can I get an appraisal on my canal boat (mid 1960's) that was made in England. The mfg is out of business

It is a Creighton "Gull". It looks like a camper however it is actually a mini houseboat that is built on a trailer, ie: the trailer stays with it all the time. It is 17' overall but the cabin portion is about 15'. It sleeps 4, has a closet for a port-a-potty, a gas stove burner, a sink. a slide open sunroof, a dining table which converts to a bed, a bunk bed which converts to a couch... It was licensed in Indiana when I bought it as a "House-car". The title had been lost so I retitled it. I have state issued boat #'s for the front, and a trailer license plate for the back. I've had it in the water and it is certainly sea-worthy. I have the original brochure for it too! There was a similar craft made called a "Car-a-Boat", (also in England). It is made of fiberglas on the bottom half, and tin covered wood on the upper half. It appears to be one of the few left in existence, and most defineatly the only one in the states. I want to find it's value for insurance and possible sale of it.

The easiest way to find the value of anything is to look around and see what other comparable items are selling for. In fact that is how the marine surveyor will do it. He will ask you what you think it is worth, what you paid for it, and compare that value to what other boats of that type and condition are selling for. You can do the same thing yourself.

If you wish to get a a second opinion of the boat's condition a professional marine surveyor is well worth the money.

  • Search & Find - How do you hem blue jeans without making them look ...

I have done upholstery and sunbrella boat covers. I am not a tailor. The problems are the same though. You will need a sewing machine, heavy starch, an iron, a sewing awl, or an icepick can be substituted for the awl if you have hand sewing needles to go through the holes made by the ice pick. Straight pins or safety pins. If you carefully cut away the threads they used to sew the hem, you can see how the original job was done.

Cut the jeans to a length at least an inch longer than you want them to turn out. Turn them inside out and fold a small strip of the bottom edge to what was the inner side, but is for now the outer side of the work since they have been turned inside out. Spray with the heavy starch and iron with a hot iron until it is stiff. Repeat the process by rolling another fold up and ironing. Do not think that you can get away without the starch and ironing because the seam will try to twist around when it is being sewn even if you leave pins in it while sewing. The idea is to duplicate the dimensions of the now cut off original seam. You now need to put some pins or safety pins in the hem to keep it from unrolling. Now to try on the jeans to see if they are the right length. If they are then they are ready to sew. Because there are actually twelve layers of tightly rolled denim in the french seams that are perpendicular to the hem, that is where the hand sewing is needed. A domestic sewing machine will likely break a needle trying to go through that many layers, so those few stitches that go through the french seams should be driven through with the awl and the thread tied off inside the jeans. Don’t stab yourself -use a block of wood or something behind the jeans. The rest can be sewn with the same number of passes with the sewing machine as the original had.
