14 Boat Cover

How much would it be to shrink wrap a 14 foot trihull on the trailer. Do they cover the outboard too? Never done this before, but we get harsh winters and it will be stored outdoors.

Our marina charges $21 per foot, so $294. Does not include winterization, cleaning, etc. If you need an access zipper, that's another $80. We cover the outboard down as far as the lower cowl.

I know you can take the classes when you're 14, but im wondering if the classes are for boats, or it covers jet skiing too. I don't want to take to separate classes, but i will if i have to. Thank you if you did answer!!!

the boating license course will cover all types of boats including PWC's since you are 14 you will be able to operate your PWC once you pass the test and get your boaters safety certificate.

Why is quarter inch plywood to risky.How bout honeycomb method with quarter inch plywood sandwiched together with honeycomb structure in between. Also where can i get CAD viewer on the net.Can i submit a design to an engineer to test.Is honeycomb a proven method.I would like to make a boat about 12 to 14 feet long for fishing in lakes and able to attach at least a 9.9 outboard motor.
Is fiberglass worth doing and how expensive is this technique.I thought I would use three coats of any kind of primer with three coats of marine paint or concrete (covering) paint on the hull or bottom of the boat.I was going to use brass screws also.I thought about using ribs and incorporate them into the seats to be out of the way.Also the seats would also substitute as storage boxes.I planned on making my own set of oars with three pieces of wood each.I also thought of attaching an upright seat to the bench type wooden seat I was going to install.

To start with, get plans. You can contact Small Boat Journal, Messing About in Boats or Wooden Boat for contacts for plans. We know someone who made a boat from luan, 24 feet by 4 feet, a schooner. It was a Phil Bolgers light schooner. It held a 4 man crew and won a race off Fairhaven, CT in the sharpie class. Dynamite Paysen is the name regarding stitch and glue. Use te West system over wood, not fiberglass. Most of Phil Bolgers boats can be built that way.

I recently purchased an older 14' fiberglass boat. It has a 1959 Johnson super seahorse 35 hp motor. I was wondering aside from covering this boat what I should do to get it ready for winter. Also, does anyone know anything about this boat? Like what kind of speed I can expect from this set up ETC??? As you can guess I am new at this and would just like some basic information on it.

Put StaBil or SeaFoam in the gas tank before the last ride of the year.

Pull the gas line and run all the gas out of the engine.

When it comes out of the water pull the hull plug.

Pull the spark plugs out and spray fogging oil into the cylinders. Turn the engine over once to spread the oil.

Get the engine straight up and down to drain water and ready the engine for gear lube change. Drain the lower unit and refill with fresh gear lube.

Disconnect the battery and charge.

Enjoy the winter and dream about the water

My small 14' Bayliner constantly fills with water when it rains. Although I keep the cover on it when it's not in use, water is constantly pooling up on it and leaking through.

The cover was purchased from Wal-Mart and it's in good condition with no rips, tears or holes. I keep it tied down with bungee cords but it's no use - the water still pools up. Also, the boat is stored with the plug out, but the carpets retain the water instead of letting it drain out. It just seems that every time I open up the boat, the carpets are moldy and soaked and it's getting annoying.

I was wondering if anyone had any cheap and inexpensive ideas to keep water out of a boat during storage. I'd really appreciate it.

The wal-mart covers are good in ways and bad in ways. The good is that they are semipermeable meaning that when its sunny outside and the boat is covered, some sun will enter the boat allowing what moisture that was trapped under the cover to evaporate. The bad thing with this is that if light can shine through it, water can also get in. These covers are made with a low polyester count so they are not very water resistant. My cheap solution to you is buy a can of scotch guard, its a water repellent, and spray the whole cover with it, inside and out. Allow to dry. When you re-install the cover, do not stretch it too tight, the tighter its stretched the larger the pores in the fiber are. Instead, place a pole of some sort, piece of pvc pipe works good with a tennis ball, cut slit in ball stick on end of pipe, on the end touching the cover, in the front of the boat, one mid ways, and one towards the back. This will sorta make a dome tent that will allow the water to run off the boat and not puddle. Hope I have helped.
